Continental Refrigerator Error Code E0: Regulation Probe Error
E0 means the regulation probe in the return air stream has an error, so the control no longer follows the real cabinet temperature. The unit runs a preprogrammed on and off cycle by time, and the cabinet can drift. Read a thermometer inside right away, keep the doors shut and contact a service provider promptly.
Medium: the cabinet runs on a timer without temperature control, so contents can warm or freeze.

What does Continental error code E0 mean?
The regulation probe on a Continental easy-control reach-in or roll-in, such as the 1RN, D2RN or 2RSN, sits in the return air stream and tells the control the cabinet temperature. The compressor runs and stops according to that reading. If the control cannot read the probe, because the connector is loose or the wire is broken, the display shows only E0. The control then falls back on a preprogrammed on and off cycle based on time. The cabinet may stay cool for a while because the cycle was written for typical conditions. But a timed cycle does not know how warm the kitchen is, how often the doors are opened or how full the cabinet is, so the temperature can drift up or down. The manual points to a loose probe connector, a broken wire between the probe and the control, a failed probe input on the control, and damage to the lead near the evaporator fan or door frame. Watch the thermometer, because the display no longer helps.
Affected models and control systems
This page covers Continental reach-in and roll-in refrigerators with the easy electronic control, such as the 1RN, D2RN and 2RSN.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Display shows only E0
- Compressor runs and stops on a timer
- Cabinet temperature drifts warmer or colder than the set point
Possible causes
Listed in Continental's documentation
- A loose connector on the regulation probe in the return air stream
- A broken wire between the probe and the control
- A failed regulation probe input on the control
- A probe lead damaged near the evaporator fan or door frame
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E0 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A probe lead caught by the door frame during a hinge adjustment
- A connector pulled loose when someone cleaned behind the control housing
- Ice buildup that has crushed the lead near the evaporator fan
Safe checks before calling for service
- Read a thermometer inside the cabinet right away, since the cycle is on a timer.
- Keep the doors closed as much as possible.
- Move perishable food to another cooler if the cabinet feels warm.
- Contact a service provider promptly. Tell us the model and what the thermometer reads.
How a technician diagnoses error code E0
- Read the code and place a calibrated thermometer in the cabinet.
- Inspect the probe, its connector and lead along its route.
- Measure the probe resistance at a known temperature.
- Check the control input with a known resistor.
- Replace the probe, lead or control only after the readings show which one has failed.
- The cabinet is running blind on a timer, so food can warm or freeze before anyone notices.
- The probe sits in the air stream behind the evaporator cover, which has to be removed.
- A lead damaged near the fan or door frame needs a careful repair and a meter test.
How error code E0 differs from similar codes
E1 is the evaporator probe, E2 the ambient probe. E0 is the one that controls cabinet temperature.

Can I keep food in the cabinet with E0 showing?
Only if a thermometer inside shows a safe temperature. Check often, because the control no longer follows it.
Does the unit still cool?
Usually for a while, on its timed cycle. It may not hold temperature if the load or room changes.
Is E0 the same as E1?
No. E0 is the probe that reads cabinet air temperature, and E1 is the one on the evaporator coil.
