Anets Fryer Error Code HEAT FAILURE: Ignition Lockout

HEAT FAILURE on two lines, shown by an Anets AGP fryer with the computer control, means the ignition system has locked out. The manual points to its Appliance Troubleshooting section.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the ignition system has locked out and the fryer will not heat until it is serviced.

What does Anets HEAT FAILURE mean?

When the computer control calls for heat it starts an ignition sequence, then waits for proof that the burner has lit. If that proof does not arrive in time, the ignition system shuts down and locks out so gas is not left flowing into an unlit burner. The computer control displays this as HEAT on the first line and FAILURE on the second. The manual lists it in the computer control table on page 31 as ignition system has locked out. Unlike the digital controller form, which says to contact a service company, this entry tells the reader to refer to the Appliance Troubleshooting section of the same manual. That section is not part of the information we hold, so we cannot repeat its steps. What we can say is that the display reports a stop in the ignition sequence, not a problem with the oil temperature reading.

Affected models and control systems

Anets AGP series gas fryers (AGP55, AGP55T, AGP60, AGP60W and AGP75) with the computer control. The digital controller on the same fryers shows the lockout as HEAT then FAIL alternating, which has its own page.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • HEAT appears over FAILURE on the two display lines
  • The burner will not stay lit and the oil stops heating
  • The ignition clicks or the pilot lights briefly and goes out

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind HEAT FAILURE on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Gas shutoff valve at the fryer closed, or the supply interrupted
  • Dirty or poorly positioned ignition electrode or pilot that cannot start the flame
  • Soot or grease on the flame sensing part so the control never sees a flame
  • Drain valve not fully closed, which can stop a heat cycle from starting

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Check the gas shutoff valve at the fryer and confirm the building gas supply is on.
  2. Close the drain valve fully, confirm the oil is at the marked line, and switch the fryer off.
  3. Wait a minute or two, then try one restart. If you ever smell gas, leave the area and call the gas company.
  4. If HEAT FAILURE returns, leave the fryer off. Note what the burner did before the message showed, and refer to the maker's Appliance Troubleshooting section if you want its steps.

How a technician diagnoses HEAT FAILURE

  1. Read the code and ask what the burner did on the last attempt, then watch a complete ignition trial.
  2. Verify gas supply, pressure and the position of any in-line shutoff valves.
  3. Inspect the electrode, pilot or burner head and flame sensing part for soot, grease and gaps.
  4. Test the ignition module output and gas valve coil with a meter during the trial.
  5. Check safety switches in the valve circuit, then replace only the part that fails and confirm a steady flame.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Gas valve and ignition voltage can only be tested while the burner circuit is energized, which is not safe for an operator.
  • A lockout is a safety stop on a gas appliance, and clearing it without finding the cause is a combustion hazard.

How HEAT FAILURE differs from similar codes

HEAT FAILURE is the computer control wording. The digital controller shows the same lockout as HEAT and FAIL alternating and says to contact a service company.

HEAT FAILUREQuestions about Anets HEAT FAILURE
Where is the troubleshooting section?

The manual refers to an Appliance Troubleshooting section for this message. It is part of the AGP series installation and operation manual.

Does HEAT FAILURE mean the oil is too hot or cold?

No. It reports that the ignition system locked out, not an oil temperature.

Can I keep trying to light it?

We would not. One careful restart after checking the gas valve is reasonable, but repeated tries leave gas in the burner area.
