Atosa Prep Table Error Code P1: Room Probe Failure

P1 on an Atosa prep table with the digital controller means the room probe has failed, so the control no longer follows the real air temperature. The table keeps running on a preset on and off pattern. Check food temperature, close the lids and doors, and make sure nothing presses on the probe wire.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the table keeps running but without temperature feedback, so it can drift warm or cold.

What does Atosa error code P1 mean?

The room probe is the sensor that tells the digital controller the temperature in the pan area or cabinet. The controller normally cycles the compressor on and off to hold the set point against that reading. When the probe signal disappears, because a connector is loose, the wire is broken, or the input on the control has failed, the controller shows P1 and falls back on a preset. In that mode the compressor output follows the Cy and Cn parameters, a fixed run time and a fixed rest time that do not depend on the real air temperature. The table keeps running, so nothing seems wrong at first. But the control is working blind, and it can drift warm or cold depending on the room, the load and how often the lid is opened. The manual lists a loose connector, a broken wire between the probe and the controller, a failed probe input, and a probe lead pinched under the lid or near the fan.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to Atosa MSF and MPF refrigerated prep tables with the digital controller, such as the MSF8302GR, MSF8307GR and MPF8202GR. Other controller generations use different codes.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • P1 shows and the compressor runs in a fixed on and off rhythm
  • The pans drift warm in a hot kitchen or cold overnight
  • The display shows no real temperature
  • The table looks normal until the load changes

Possible causes

Listed in Atosa's documentation

  • A loose connector on the Atosa room probe
  • A broken wire between the P1 probe and the digital controller
  • A failed room probe input on the Atosa controller
  • A probe lead pinched under the lid or near the fan

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code P1 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A probe lead trapped under the lid hinge and cut through by daily opening
  • A probe connector pulled loose when the pans were lifted out for cleaning
  • A probe lead chewed by the fan blades after it slipped out of its clip

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Check food temperature in the pans with a thermometer.
  2. Close the lids and doors.
  3. Make sure nothing is pressing on the probe wire.
  4. Keep checking the pans by hand during service.
  5. If P1 stays on, note when it first appeared and call us.

How a technician diagnoses error code P1

  1. Read the code and confirm the compressor follows Cy and Cn.
  2. Inspect the probe lead along its route for pinching and cuts.
  3. Check the connector at the controller.
  4. Measure probe resistance against a reference temperature.
  5. Test the probe input with a known resistor.
  6. Replace the probe or control as the test shows, then reset Cy and Cn behavior.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The control is cooling without feedback until the probe is repaired, so food needs watching.
  • The probe lead runs through areas that need panels removed.
  • A probe test needs a meter and a reference temperature.

How error code P1 differs from similar codes

P2 is the evaporator probe on the same controller, and it affects defrost rather than the cooling cycle.

P1Questions about Atosa error code P1
Does P1 stop the cooling?

No, the compressor follows a preset pattern, but it can drift warm or cold.

Is P1 the same as P2?

No. P1 is the room probe, and P2 is the evaporator probe used for defrost.

How long can I leave it?

Check food by hand until it is fixed, since the control cannot correct for the real temperature.
