Baker’s Pride Cyclone Oven Display 000: Probe or Over-Temperature

Three zeros (000) in the temperature display of a Baker's Pride Cyclone convection oven mean the control reports either a failed temperature probe or that the oven has gone beyond its operating temperature. The manual says to shut the oven off immediately and call a technician.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the manual says to turn the oven off immediately because it may have gone beyond operating temperature.

What does Bakers Pride error code 000 mean?

A convection oven control reads the oven cavity temperature from a probe and uses it to switch the heating elements on and off. On the BCO-E and GDCO-E Cyclone ovens, the Display Descriptions page of the operation manual explains that when three zeros (000) are shown in the temperature display, the control is reporting one of two conditions. Either the temperature probe has failed, so the control cannot read the cavity, or the oven has gone beyond its operating temperature. The manual gives no way to tell these apart from the display, no reset and no timing. Its instruction is blunt: shut the appliance OFF immediately and call a technician. Because one of the two conditions is overheating, the safe response is not to keep cooking or to power the oven back on to see whether the display returns, but to leave it off and report exactly what was on the display.

Affected models and control systems

Cyclone Series full-size electric convection ovens, models BCO-E and GDCO-E, with the push-button programmable controller. The code is described in Display Descriptions on page 8 of the operation manual.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Three zeros (000) in the temperature display
  • Oven much hotter than the set temperature, or no heat at all
  • Food over-browned or undercooked

Possible causes

Listed in Bakers Pride's documentation

  • Temperature probe has failed
  • Appliance has gone beyond operating temperature

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 000 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A probe lead damaged by heat or grease where it enters the oven cavity
  • A heating contactor stuck closed so the elements stay on
  • A control board input that no longer reads the probe correctly

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Turn the oven OFF at its controls, as the manual says, and do not restart it to test.
  2. If you can do so safely, switch off the power at the breaker serving the oven.
  3. Let the oven cool completely with the door closed before touching anything.
  4. Write down the model, the code on the display, what you were baking and how the oven behaved, then call a technician.

How a technician diagnoses error code 000

  1. Confirm the code and check the cavity temperature with a calibrated thermometer once cool enough to test safely.
  2. Inspect the probe and its wiring for heat damage and check probe resistance at room temperature against its chart.
  3. Check the high limit thermostat and the heating contactor for stuck contacts.
  4. Test the control board temperature input and output relays.
  5. Replace the failed probe, contactor or board and verify that the oven holds its set temperature.
! Leave this to a technician
  • An oven that may be overheating is a burn and fire hazard, so the manual says to turn it off and call. The probe, contactor and limit devices are wired to 208-240 V behind the oven panels. Telling a probe failure from an over-temperature condition needs a meter and a calibrated thermometer.
