What does Blakeslee error code Z17 mean?

Final rinse water has to arrive at the rinse arms at the right flow. The control checks that the rinse supply is present when a rinse is requested, and if it is not, it stops and displays Z17 RINSE WATER SUPPLY FAILURE. The manual gives the meaning as rinse water supply failure and lists three things for the operator: make sure the water supply works, make sure the rinse arms and nozzles are in position, and turn the machine off and on after a few seconds. If the alarm persists, it says to contact Technical Service. The wording differs from the boiler alarms: Z17 is about the water coming to the rinse, not about its temperature or the boiler heating. A closed valve, low supply pressure or a rinse path that is displaced can all trigger it.

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Z17 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Low building water pressure
  • Rinse arms or nozzles out of position
  • Rinse valve or booster pump not operating

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Check that the water supply valve is open and that water is available elsewhere in the kitchen.
  2. Check that the rinse arms and nozzles are in position, as the manual says.
  3. Turn the machine off, wait a few seconds, and turn it on again.
  4. If Z17 returns, stop running racks.
  5. Note whether other taps were running at the time and what you changed.

How a technician diagnoses error code Z17

  1. Read the alarm history and note any boiler fill or heating alarms near the Z17 entry.
  2. Measure the dynamic pressure at the rinse inlet.
  3. Verify the rinse arms and manifold seat correctly and are not blocked with scale.
  4. Test the rinse valve and any booster pump for supply voltage and coil continuity.
  5. Replace the failed valve, pump or sensor according to the result.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Rinse valves and pumps are wired at line voltage.
  • The rinse circuit is pressurized hot water.
  • Distinguishing a supply problem from a failed valve takes pressure and electrical readings.
