What does Blakeslee error code Z8 mean?
Z8 GENERAL ALARM is not a part failure. It appears when the emergency button has been pressed, which cuts the machine's operation at once. The manual's instruction is to make sure the emergency situation is solved and then release the emergency button, after which the machine can resume. It also states that the emergency button must not be used as the ordinary ON/OFF switch. The purpose of the button is to stop the machine quickly when someone is in danger, when a rack jams or when water is escaping. Each use stops the conveyor, pumps and heating, and repeated use as a power switch can strain the contactors. Once the button is released and the cause of the stop is dealt with, the alarm clears. If Z8 stays after the button is released, the button contact or its wiring needs checking.

How a technician diagnoses error code Z8
- Confirm the emergency button position and release it.
- Read the alarm history and see whether other alarms came before the stop.

- Check the safety circuit wiring for loose or damaged connections.
- Replace the button or its wiring if the alarm persists after release.
- The safety circuit is wired into line-voltage controls.
- A failing emergency stop is a safety matter and should not be bypassed.
- Testing the contact needs a meter and access behind the control panel.
