Franke Coffee Machine Error Message: Four-Level Color Symbol
The Franke A400 does not show numbered error codes on its panel. It shows a colored symbol with a text message, and the color tells you how serious the problem is. Tap the symbol to read the message and the instructions, and restart the machine after a serious error.
Medium: the level depends on the symbol, from a short interruption to locked resources.

What does Franke Colored symbol/triangle on the operator panel mean?
On the A400 (FCS4060) errors are displayed as a colored symbol at the upper right of the operator panel, with a text message behind it. The manual gives four levels: a temporary interruption, an error where the system is still fully functional, an error where the system has limited functionality, and an error where some or all resources are locked. The symbol color tells you which level you are looking at, though the colors are drawn as icons in the manual, so we do not name them here. Tapping the symbol opens the message and its instructions. If the whole system is affected, the message appears on its own without a tap. In self-service mode a colored triangle shows the error to staff. The idea is to let the operator judge at a glance whether to keep serving, work around the problem or stop and call for help.

Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind Colored symbol/triangle on the operator panel on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A drink product or resource that has run out and locked its function
- A serious error that needs a restart to clear
- A repeat of the same message after a restart pointing to a part that needs service
Safe checks before calling for service
- Tap the colored symbol on the operator panel and read the message and the instructions.
- Follow the instruction shown, such as filling or replacing what has run out.
- After a serious error, switch the machine off at the main switch, wait a minute, and switch it on again.
- If the machine does not start, check the power supply.
- If the error cannot be fixed, contact the service technician and give them the message text and the color of the symbol.
How a technician diagnoses Colored symbol/triangle on the operator panel
- Read the message and note which of the four levels the symbol shows.
- Check whether the message is about a resource, such as product or water, or a part.
- Verify power supply and the main switch.
- Restart the machine and see if the message returns.
- Look up the message in the troubleshooting section of the A400 manual and work through its listed checks.
- Replace the part named in the message only after the test confirms it.
- Water, steam and the grinder are connected to the machine's electrical control, so opening the machine is a hazard for an operator.
- Reading the machine's service data and clearing locked resources needs the maker's service access.
- A restart clears some conditions but can hide a failing part, so a technician decides whether the message is a one-off.
