What does Taylor BRL Not Cooling mean?

In Auto mode, the C300 control expects a freezing cylinder to cool down steadily once product is in the barrel. It checks this only when the product is above 40 F. If the cylinder has not cooled within 5 minutes, the control concludes that cooling is not happening and shuts that cylinder down, with the message BRL Not Cooling in the error screen. The operator must press OFF there to discontinue it. The code points to the refrigeration side or to product that is not reaching the barrel. The manual lists airflow and condenser cleanliness, product level and supply to the barrel, the refrigeration system for that cylinder, and the thermistor reading. Because only that cylinder is affected, the other barrel may keep working. A barrel without product is easy to miss when syrup, water or CO2 has run out, so check those supplies before assuming the refrigeration has failed.

What you may notice

  • BRL Not Cooling appears on the error screen for one barrel
  • The product in that barrel is warm or runny
  • The other barrel may keep freezing

Possible causes

Listed in Taylor's documentation

  • Airflow and condenser cleanliness
  • Product level and supply to the barrel
  • The refrigeration system for that cylinder
  • The thermistor reading

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind BRL Not Cooling on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A barrel that ran low on mix so the thermistor never sees cold product
  • A condenser clogged with grease and dust from the kitchen air

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Press the OFF key in the error screen on that cylinder, as the owner's manual directs.
  2. Check that the barrel has product and that the syrup, water and CO2 are all on.
  3. Check that nothing blocks the air space around the machine.
  4. Do not touch the refrigeration lines, and tell us which barrel was affected.

How a technician diagnoses BRL Not Cooling

  1. Read the screen and note which barrel shows BRL Not Cooling.
  2. Check the product level, mix supply and the condenser airflow.
  3. Clean the condenser and confirm fan operation.
  4. Check the thermistor reading against a thermometer.
  5. Measure refrigeration pressures and compressor operation for that cylinder.
  6. Replace the part that fails the test.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The refrigeration circuit holds pressurized refrigerant and needs gauges and certified handling.
  • Compressor and fan wiring carry live voltage.
  • Comparing the thermistor reading with the real product temperature requires removing parts under sanitary rules.
