Huebsch Frontload Washer Error Code E dL: Door Lock Error

E dL is a door lock error: the control does not see the door lock within a short time after the door closes, or does not see it unlock after the cycle ends. Open the door and shut it again firmly, and look for a sock or lint caught in the door seal. For a stuck door, switch the machine off and wait until the lock lets go, and never force it.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the washer will not start or release its load until the lock confirms, but the cause is often simple.

What does Huebsch error code E dL mean?

The Quantum control and the CHM495R front end both lock the door before the drum moves and expect a confirmation that the lock is in. They also expect an unlock signal when the cycle ends. E dL reports that one of those confirmations is missing. Either the lock did not register within a short time after the door closed, or it did not register as unlocked afterward. Customers get a washer that will not start, or one that will not release wet laundry at the end. The manual's owner step is to open and re-close the door, or on the larger machines to power down and retry. The causes it lists are door closing alignment and anything caught in the door seal, the door lock mechanism and its switches, the wiring from the lock to the control, and the control's lock output. A sock in the seal is the commonest of these, and a lock that has worn can pass the test cold and fail when it is warm. A stuck door should never be forced, because the lock is there to keep a moving drum from being reached.

Affected models and control systems

E dL is listed for Huebsch Quantum frontload washers in the FLW1535C family and for CHM495R-family washer-extractors (20 to 100 lb). The QN washer-extractors use separate E dL, E dL1 and E dL2 listings.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

Possible causes

Listed in Huebsch's documentation

  • Door misaligned or something caught in the door seal
  • Door lock mechanism or its switches
  • Wiring from the lock to the control
  • Control's lock output

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E dL on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Latch tongue worn so it sits loosely in the lock
  • Lock solenoid slow to move when warm
  • Door hinge sagged so the door closes slightly out of line

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Open the door and shut it again firmly.
  2. Look for a sock or lint caught in the door seal.
  3. For a stuck door, switch the machine off and wait until the lock lets go before trying the door. Never force it.
  4. Book a visit with us if the code returns, and say whether the problem is locking or unlocking.

How a technician diagnoses error code E dL

  1. Read the code and note whether it occurs at start or at the end of the cycle.
  2. Inspect door alignment, hinges and the latch tongue.
  3. Test the lock switches and the solenoid with a meter.
  4. Check the wiring from the lock to the control.
  5. Replace the lock assembly or the control only after the circuit tests point to it.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Testing the lock solenoid and its switches means live work at the control with mains voltage present.
  • The lock exists to keep a moving drum from being reached, so bypassing it creates a serious injury risk.
  • Freeing a door locked on wet laundry should follow the machine's release procedure, not force.

How error code E dL differs from similar codes

This E dL is the ordinary lock or unlock confirmation error. The QN washer-extractor lists a door lock fatal error under the same display text, and E dL1 and E dL2 as non-fatal variants.
