Huebsch Quantum Washer Error Code EdF1: No Tachometer Signal
EdF1 means the control sent a run command to the motor and received no tachometer signal within six seconds. The drive is shut down, so turn the washer off, make sure the drum is free to move, and restart once to see if the code returns.
Medium: the cycle stops on this code, but the cause is a missing signal rather than an immediate danger.
What does Huebsch error code EdF1 mean?
A Quantum frontload washer cannot see the drum turning on its own. It relies on a tachometer, a small speed sensor on the motor, that sends pulses back to the control while the motor runs. When the control tells the motor to start, it waits for those pulses. If six seconds pass and nothing arrives, it cannot know whether the drum is moving or stuck, so it stops the drive and shows EdF1. This is why the washer often tries to turn and then quits. The silence on the tach line can come from several places: a harness or connector that has lost its signal, the sensor inside the motor, a drum held in place by something wedged behind it, or the tach input on the drive module that is supposed to hear the pulses. The code describes what the control did not receive, not which of those parts is responsible, so a technician has to separate them with a meter and a hand-turned drum.
Affected models and control systems
This page applies to the Quantum frontload washer family covered by the FLW1535C troubleshooting guide, including Huebsch models using that electronic control.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- The drum starts to turn, then stops and the display shows EdF1
- The motor hums or clicks at start-up without the drum getting up to speed
- The washer stalls at the beginning of a spin and does not finish the cycle
Possible causes
Listed in Huebsch's documentation
- Tachometer harness or connector damaged or loose
- Tach sensor in the motor not producing a signal
- Drum prevented from turning freely
- Tach input on the drive module not reading the pulses
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EdF1 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Lint and moisture in the motor-end connector, which cuts the pulse signal
- A sock or small item lodged between the drum and the rear of the tub, holding the drum still
Safe checks before calling for service
- Turn the washer off at its disconnect and wait one minute.
- With power off, look through the door and check that nothing is jammed between the drum and the tub.
- Power the washer back on and run a short cycle, watching whether EdF1 returns.
- If it returns, note at which step it stopped and contact us.
How a technician diagnoses error code EdF1
- Read the code and confirm EdF1 repeats on a fresh start.
- With power locked off, turn the drum by hand to rule out a bearing or foreign-object drag.
- Inspect the tach harness and its connector at both ends for damage, moisture or backed-out pins.
- Test the tach sensor output at the motor with a meter while the motor is turned.
- Check the tach input at the drive module, then replace the sensor or the module only after the readings point to it.
- The tach harness and drive module sit behind panels on a machine fed by 208 to 240 V, so testing them is live electrical work.
- Telling a failed sensor from a failed drive input needs a meter and the wiring diagram for this control.
- A drum that will not turn freely may involve a bearing, which means disassembling the drum assembly.
How error code EdF1 differs from similar codes
On Quantum controls, EdF1 is the loss of the tach signal, while EdF5 reports that the motor started but never reached 20 RPM. The causes overlap, but the readings differ.

Related Huebsch washer error codes
What is a tachometer on a washer?
It is a speed sensor on the motor. It reports how fast the motor turns so the control can confirm the drum is moving.
Why does the drum try to move and then quit?
The control waits six seconds for the speed signal. If none arrives, it stops the motor.
Can I just restart it?
One restart is fine to check whether the code returns. Repeated restarts do not fix a missing signal.
