Huebsch Quantum Topload Washer Error Code E II: Lid Will Not Unlock
E II on a Huebsch Quantum topload washer with a lid lock means the lid did not unlock after three attempts. Switch the washer off and wait for the lid lock to release before gently trying the lid, and never pry it with a tool. Book service with us if it stays locked.
Medium: the washer finished its cycle but traps the load until the lock releases.
What does Huebsch error code E II mean?
On a topload with a lid lock, the Quantum control keeps the lid latched while the tub is spinning and releases it when the cycle ends. At the end of the cycle it tries to unlock the lid, and if the lock does not let go after three attempts, it posts "E II". The customer sees a washer that has finished but will not open, with wet clothes inside. The control cannot force the lock, so the load stays shut in until the lock releases. The manual lists the lid lock mechanism and its solenoid, the lid switch and its alignment, the wiring from the lock to the control, and the control's lock output as the usual places to look. A strong pull on the lid can break the latch or the lid itself, so the right move is patience.
Affected models and control systems
This page applies to Huebsch Quantum topload washers in the TLW13C family with a lid lock. Washers without a lid lock, and the QN and CHM495R washer-extractors, use door messages instead.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Cycle has ended but the lid will not open
- "E II" is shown on the display
- Wet clothes remain locked in the tub
Possible causes
Listed in Huebsch's documentation
- Lid lock mechanism or solenoid not releasing
- Lid switch out of alignment
- Wiring from the lock to the control damaged
- Lock output on the control not responding
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E II on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A lid that sits slightly misaligned so the latch binds against the strike after repeated slams
- A lock solenoid that has weakened from heavy daily use and releases too slowly
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the washer off and wait for the lid lock to release.
- Try the lid gently once the lock has had time to let go.
- Never pry or force the lid with a tool.
- Book service with us if it stays locked, and note how many loads it has happened on.
How a technician diagnoses error code E II
- Read the code and confirm the tub has fully stopped.
- Inspect the lid, latch and strike alignment.
- Test the lock solenoid operation and its coil.
- Check the lid switch and the wiring from the lock to the control.
- Replace the lock or switch only after the test, then confirm unlock at the end of a cycle.
- The lid lock circuit is live while the machine is powered, so testing it means working at the control with power on.
- Forcing a locked lid can break parts and release a tub that may still be turning.
- Alignment and solenoid travel are judged with the lock assembly removed.
How error code E II differs from similar codes
E II is a lid lock unlock message on the Quantum topload. Door messages on the QN washer-extractors, such as E door, concern the door opening during a cycle instead.

Can I reach in and pull my laundry out?
Not until the lid unlocks. Never reach in while the tub could still be moving.
Will it unlock by itself after a while?
Sometimes switching the washer off and waiting lets the lock release, but a repeat means the lock needs service.
Is the washer ruined?
No. It is a lock release problem, and the laundry is fine once the lid opens.
