Huebsch EDC Topload Washer Error Code E:01: Micro-wand Proximity Error

E:01 is a proximity error on a Huebsch EDC control: the Micro-wand IIIe was not aimed correctly at the infrared communicator, so the control never saw it close enough to start the exchange. Re-aim the tool so it faces the communicator squarely, bring it closer without touching the cover, and hold it steady. The washer's cycles are not affected.

Medium · inspection needed

Low: it affects only the programming or data session, and the washer keeps washing.

What does Huebsch error code E:01 mean?

The EDC control only opens a programming or data session when the Micro-wand IIIe is close enough and square enough to the infrared communicator for the beam to land on the receiver. E:01 reports that the check for that closeness failed. The control did not see the tool near enough to begin, so it stopped before any data moved. Nothing about the wash is involved, which is why owners meet the code while programming or reading data and not while doing laundry. It clears once the tool is placed properly. A wand held too far away or at a slant is the most common story. The manual also lists a dirty communicator window blocking the beam, a weak battery in the Micro-wand, and a loose wire between the communicator and the control. The first two are things an operator can address, while the wire is a technician's check. Because the control sees the tool as absent, the display can look as if the wand were doing nothing at all.

Affected models and control systems

E:01 is listed for Huebsch timer-type toploads with the EDC electronic control, programmed with the Micro-wand IIIe. It does not apply to Quantum controls, which use other codes.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • E:01 on the display as soon as the Micro-wand is used
  • The session never starts although the tool looks active
  • The washer runs normally when not being programmed

Possible causes

Listed in Huebsch's documentation

  • Micro-wand held too far from the communicator or crooked to it
  • Dirty communicator window blocking the infrared beam
  • Weak battery in the Micro-wand
  • Loose wire between the communicator and the control

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E:01 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Tool resting on the control cover so the beam angle is wrong
  • Operator standing at a side angle in a tight laundry room
  • Communicator window clouded by detergent mist

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Re-aim the Micro-wand IIIe so it faces the communicator squarely.
  2. Bring it closer, but keep it from touching the cover.
  3. Keep the wand steady until the exchange ends.
  4. Contact us if the control still ignores the tool, and say how far away you held it.

How a technician diagnoses error code E:01

  1. Confirm E:01 appears only when the Micro-wand is used.
  2. Check the Micro-wand battery and try the tool at several distances and angles.
  3. Clean the communicator window and inspect it for scratches.
  4. Check the wire between the communicator and the control for a loose connector.
  5. Try a second Micro-wand if available, and replace the communicator or control only if it is the cause.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Checking the wire between the communicator and the control means opening the control area, where mains voltage is present.
  • Judging whether the receiver itself is weak needs a second known-good tool and a repeat session.
  • Reprogramming a control that has been through repeated failed sessions risks overwriting its stored values.

How error code E:01 differs from similar codes

E:01 and E:09 are both proximity errors from the same cause. E:02 and E:0B are infrared disconnections, which happen after the session has begun.
