Huebsch EDC Topload Washer Error Code E:09: Micro-wand Proximity
E:09 is a proximity error like E:01: the Micro-wand IIIe was not placed correctly in front of the infrared communicator, so the control would not accept the exchange. Re-aim the Micro-wand and try again, holding it still and level. Washing itself is not part of this.
Low: it only blocks programming and data transfer, and the washer keeps running.
What does Huebsch error code E:09 mean?
The EDC control accepts a Micro-wand session only when it can tell the tool is where it should be. E:09 means the control decided the wand was not placed correctly in front of the infrared communicator, and it declined the exchange. This is a gatekeeping check, not a data problem. Nothing has been sent, so there is nothing to repeat except the aiming. Owners see the code during programming. The manual's step is simply to re-aim the Micro-wand and try again. The factors it lists are where the wand sits compared with the communicator, the communicator window, the wand itself, and the receiver behind the window. In practice the wand position is far and away the most likely, and a cloudy window is next. If a wand held level and still, and a clean window, still produce E:09, the issue narrows to the wand or the receiver. Trying a second tool is the quickest way to tell which. The code is the same family as E:01 and E:0A.
Affected models and control systems
E:09 is listed for Huebsch timer-type toploads with the EDC electronic control and the Micro-wand IIIe. Other controller generations do not use it the same way.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- E:09 appears when the tool is used
- The control ignores the Micro-wand
- Wash cycles continue as normal
Possible causes
Listed in Huebsch's documentation
- Wand not positioned correctly against the communicator
- Dirty communicator window
- Problem with the wand itself
- Receiver behind the window not responding
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E:09 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Wand tilted upward because the communicator sits at a low spot on the cabinet
- Fingerprints or detergent film on the wand's tip
- Receiver weakened by years of heat inside the cabinet
Safe checks before calling for service
- Re-aim the Micro-wand at the communicator and try again.
- Hold the tool still and level.
- Clean the window if it looks cloudy.
- Give us a call if a well-aimed wand is still refused by the control, and tell us what you tried.
How a technician diagnoses error code E:09
- Confirm E:09 appears at the start of a session.
- Test the Micro-wand on another EDC washer to rule out the tool.
- Clean and inspect the communicator window.
- Check the wire from the communicator to the control for a loose connector.
- Replace the communicator or control only after another tool also fails.
- Inspecting the communicator wiring means opening the control area, where mains voltage is present.
- Pinning the problem on the wand or the receiver needs a second EDC washer and a known-good tool.
- Replacing a receiver or control means reprogramming the washer's settings afterward.
How error code E:09 differs from similar codes
E:09 is a proximity error like E:01 and E:0A. Disconnection codes such as E:02 and E:0B happen after a session has started.

Why do I see E:09 and not E:01?
The listing carries several proximity codes for the same aiming problem. The exact number does not change what to do.
Does it affect washing?
No. The manual says washing is not part of this.
What if cleaning the window does nothing?
Try a second Micro-wand. If that fails too, the control's receiver needs a technician.
