Dexter Commercial Dryer Error Code F2: Sensor Circuit Open
F2 on a Dexter T-series dryer means the temperature sensor circuit is open, so the control cannot measure heat. Power the dryer down, let it cool, clean the lint you can reach, and restart once. If F2 shows again, call us to schedule service.
Medium: the dryer does not dry normally, but the likely cause is a single sensor circuit.
What does Dexter error code F2 mean?
Heat control on these dryers depends on a single probe in the exhaust path. The control sends a small current through the probe and reads the voltage drop to work out the temperature. When the circuit is open, because the probe has failed inside or a wire has broken or a plug has come loose, there is no current and no reading. The control cannot safely run a heat cycle blind, so it will not run the dryer normally and puts F2 on the display. A busy dryer shakes constantly, and a wire worn by that vibration is one of the maker's named causes. Attendants notice the code, but the customer notices first: the load was tumbled and still feels wet. Because an open circuit and a shorted one look different electrically, the two codes call for different measurements, and guessing between them wastes a service visit. Intermittent F2 events often point to a wire or plug rather than the probe, since a broken strand can touch again each time the cabinet settles.
Affected models and control systems
Dexter T-30, T-50, T-80 and T-120 coin dryer controls, such as the T-50 and T-80. Other controls number their messages differently.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- F2 appears on the display
- Loads finish damp or cold
- The dryer runs briefly and stops
- The message disappears after a power restart and returns later
Possible causes
Listed in Dexter's documentation
- Temperature probe failed open
- Broken probe wire or loose plug
- Probe wire broken by vibration over time
- Control input misreading the probe as open
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code F2 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A crimp at the probe connector that has cracked after thousands of heat cycles
- A wire chafed through where it passes a cabinet edge near the basket support
Safe checks before calling for service
- Use the disconnect to power the dryer down, then let it cool.
- Clean the lint screen and the lint area you can reach.
- Do not tug on wiring or remove panels.
- Switch power on once and watch whether F2 returns.
- If it does, call us and note whether it appears at start or after the dryer has been running.
How a technician diagnoses error code F2
- Read the display and confirm F2 rather than a shorted-sensor message.
- With power off and locked out, measure probe resistance and compare it to the rated value.
- Flex the harness gently while measuring to find an intermittent break.
- Check the plug at the control and at the probe for loose or corroded terminals.
- Verify the control input reads correctly with a known-good test resistor in place of the probe.
- Replace only the part the measurements name, then run a full test cycle.
- The probe and its plug are inside the cabinet near live wiring and hot parts.
- Telling a failed probe from a broken wire takes a resistance measurement while the harness is flexed.
- A control input that misreads the probe can only be proven with a test resistor on the board, which is technician work.

Related Dexter dryer error codes
Does F2 mean the dryer is too hot?
No. It means the control gets no reading at all, so it cannot tell how hot the dryer is.
Will a restart fix it?
Only if a connection happened to reseat itself. A failed probe will bring F2 back quickly.
Why are the loads damp?
Without a temperature reading the control will not run the heat normally, so clothes only tumble.
