Huebsch Coin Washer Error Code EC19: No Card Reader Link

EC19 means the Quantum control cannot reach the card reader at all, so customers get no response when they present a card. Turn the washer off and on and try a card, then check that the reader face is not cracked, loose or wet. If the code returns every time, the reader may be unplugged, unpowered or dead.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: card payment is unavailable on that washer, but the wash circuits are unaffected.

What does Huebsch error code EC19 mean?

Of the card reader messages, EC19 is the most basic one: the control sends out its request and nothing answers. A Huebsch Quantum washer expects a reader to be present, powered and responding. When no reply comes back, the control cannot take a card, so it shows EC19. Customers walk up, present a card and get no response while the code sits on the display. Coin handling on the same machine is separate. Because nothing answers, there are only a few physical explanations, and the manual lists them: a reader cable that is loose or cut, no power at the card reader, a reader that has gone dead, or a reader connection on the control that has failed. A power cycle is the owner step because it lets the control ask again from a clean start. If the answer returns after that, the earlier silence may have been a one-time glitch. If the code comes back every time, the reader is physically disconnected or no longer working.

Affected models and control systems

EC19 is listed for Huebsch Quantum electronic controls on FLW1535C-family frontloads and TLW13C-family toploads fitted with a card reader. For reader trouble.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • No response at all when a card is presented
  • EC19 on the display
  • Reader face dark or not responding
  • Coins may still work on a machine with a coin drop

Possible causes

Listed in Huebsch's documentation

  • Reader cable loose or cut
  • No power at the card reader
  • Card reader gone dead
  • Failed reader connection on the control

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EC19 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Water or cleaning spray that reached the reader face and killed it
  • Cable pulled or pinched when the washer was moved or serviced
  • Reader hit or vandalized so that it no longer powers up

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Turn the washer off and back on, then try a card.
  2. Check that the reader face is not cracked, loose or wet.
  3. Tag the washer so customers know to use coins or another machine.
  4. Call us once the code is back, and we will book a three-hour arrival window.

How a technician diagnoses error code EC19

  1. Confirm the reader shows no sign of life after a power cycle.
  2. Inspect the reader face and housing for cracks, water or impact damage.
  3. Check supply voltage at the reader connector.
  4. Test the cable end to end for a break.
  5. Substitute a known-good reader to decide between the reader and the control's connection, then retest with a card.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Checking supply and cable continuity means working in the control area with mains voltage present.
  • A dead reader cannot be told from a failed control connection without a part swap.
  • A replacement reader must be configured with the card system's own service tools.

How error code EC19 differs from similar codes

EC19 is silence from the reader. EC05 is bad data from a reader that answers, and EC18 is a link that dropped after working.

EC19Questions about Huebsch error code EC19
What is the difference between EC19 and EC18?

EC19 means no reader link was found, while EC18 means a link existed and was lost.

Can wet cleaning cause EC19?

A reader face that is wet can stop answering, which is why the manual-based check includes looking for moisture.

Can the washer still be used?

Where it has a coin drop, coins are a separate path. Otherwise tag it until the reader is fixed.
