Atosa Prep Table Error Code P2: Evaporator Probe Failure
P2 on an Atosa prep table with the digital controller means the evaporator probe has failed, so defrost ends by time and not by coil temperature. A timed defrost can leave frost on the coil, and over days the pans warm. Check food temperature, look for frost, and call us if P2 stays on.
Medium: the table keeps cooling at first, but defrost no longer follows the coil and cooling fades over days.

What does Atosa error code P2 mean?
During defrost the controller needs to know when the evaporator coil has warmed enough to melt its ice, and the evaporator probe supplies that. When the signal is gone because the probe has slipped off the coil, its plug is loose, the lead has ice damage, or the input has failed, the control shows P2. The defrost then ends by time. That works only if the time happens to suit the load. If the coil still holds ice when the timer ends, the next cooling cycle starts with frost in the way, airflow drops, and the coil ices further. The effect builds slowly. Over days the table loses cooling capacity and the pans warm, although P2 is the only early sign. The manual lists a probe that slipped away from the coil, a loose plug at the controller, ice damage to the probe wire and a failed probe input. A frosted back wall under the pans is the thing to look for.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to Atosa MSF and MPF refrigerated prep tables with the digital controller, such as the MSF8302GR, MSF8307GR and MPF8202GR. Other controller generations use different codes.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- P2 shows while the table still cools
- Frost builds on the back wall under the pans
- Cooling gets weaker over several days
- Pans gradually warm during a long shift
Possible causes
Listed in Atosa's documentation
- An evaporator probe that has slipped away from the Atosa coil
- A loose plug on the P2 probe lead at the digital controller
- Ice damage to the evaporator probe wire
- A failed evaporator probe input on the Atosa controller
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code P2 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A probe clip that let go of the coil fins after repeated defrost cycles
- A probe lead frozen into ice and stripped when frost was chipped away
- A plug at the controller that loosened with vibration from the compressor
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check food temperature in the pans with a thermometer.
- Look for frost on the back wall under the pans without touching the coil.
- Keep the lid closed when not in use.
- Do not chip ice from the coil.
- Call us if P2 stays on, and tell us how much frost you see.
How a technician diagnoses error code P2
- Read the code and note the defrost timing.
- Check that the evaporator probe is seated on the coil.
- Inspect the probe lead for ice damage and the plug at the controller.
- Measure probe resistance against a reference.
- Test the probe input with a known resistor.
- Replace the probe or control, then run a defrost to confirm it ends correctly.
- The evaporator probe is mounted on the coil behind the pans.
- Chipping frost from the coil can damage the coil or the probe wire.
- A timed defrost hides the problem for days, so the probe has to be tested with a meter.
How error code P2 differs from similar codes
P1 is the room probe on the same controller, and it affects the cooling cycle.

Related Atosa prep table error codes
Does P2 mean the table is warm right now?
Not necessarily. It tells you defrost is running on a timer, and the effect shows over days.
Can I clear the frost myself?
Let the coil thaw naturally and do not chip it.
Will P2 clear itself?
Only if the plug just needs reseating, which we check.
