Repairs this series usually needs
- Frost on the coil and a freezer that cannot hold temperature
- Defrost heater or probe problems
- Door gasket wear on pass-thru and roll-thru models
- Probe codes on the display
- Drain heater freezing the defrost line
The Spec Series freezers share their prefixes with the refrigerators, but the number contains an F, as in an STA1F-1G-HC or STA1F-1S-HC. Twenty-three numbers are listed for the group. Like the refrigerators, they come in reach-in, pass-thru and roll-thru shapes.
A freezer works against a bigger temperature gap than a refrigerator, so small problems show up faster. A tired gasket brings in humid air that turns to frost, and the frost cuts airflow over the coil. We start with the door seal, then the defrost heater, the coil probe and the drain heater.
We confirm the plate number before the visit so we bring the right heater and gasket parts. On roll-thru freezers we also check the sill and the lower door edge, where cart traffic breaks the seal and lets frost in.
About this series
- Spec Series freezers
- STR, STA and STG prefixes with an F in the number
- Electronic control
- Heater defrost ended on coil temperature
How is a Spec Series freezer different from the refrigerator?
The model number carries an F, and the cabinet is built to run much colder with a heater defrost. The prefixes are the same, so read the full number.
Why does frost build up so fast in summer?
Humid air carries a lot of moisture, and a gasket that does not seal lets it in. The moisture freezes on the coil and chokes the air flow.
Do you service pass-thru freezers?
Yes. They have two doors to seal and two sets of hinges to check, so we spend extra time there, and we confirm parts from the plate.
