Repairs this series usually needs

  1. Oven will not hold temperature
  2. Pilot out
  3. Hot spots or uneven bake
  4. Brick or hearth damage

The MB Series is Marsal’s line of brick-lined gas deck pizza ovens. The model on the data plate, such as an MB 42, MB 260 or MB 866, tells us the size and number of decks. The thermostat is mechanical and sets the oven anywhere from 300 to 650 F, so there is no electronic control to troubleshoot.

On these ovens we check the pilot and the safety valve first, then the thermostat. An oven that will not hold its temperature points us to the thermostat or the valve. Hot spots and uneven baking send us to the burners and the hearth. Cracked or damaged brick shows up in the bake before it shows anywhere else.

The insulation allows no side clearance, but about 3 to 4 inches is recommended at the rear for combustion air. A gas odor is a reason to step outside and call the gas utility before anything else.

FAQMarsal MB Series Brick-Lined Gas Deck Pizza Ovens questions
Does an MB oven have electronic controls?

No. The thermostat is mechanical, from 300 to 650 F. That makes the checks simple: pilot, safety valve, thermostat and burners, with no display to read.

How much space does an MB oven need?

The insulation allows no side clearance, but about 3 to 4 inches at the rear is recommended for combustion air. We check clearance when an oven struggles to hold heat.

Can a cracked hearth be repaired?

It depends on the damage. We look at the brick, tell you plainly what is practical, and give a written price before any work begins.
