Repairs this series usually needs
- Blade that is dull or wobbles
- Flywheel that binds
- Carriage drag
- Uneven slices
The FS12 and FS14 are Globe’s artisan flywheel slicers. They are hand-operated, with a flywheel that turns the blade, and they suit cured meats and charcuterie counters.
We check the blade, the flywheel bearings and the carriage. A flywheel that binds or a carriage that drags often needs cleaning and lubrication. Keep your hands clear of the blade, and use the guards at all times, since a hand-fed slicer asks more of the operator than an electric one.
A hand-operated slicer asks more of the operator, so a smooth flywheel and sharp blade matter. We give a written price first, and we tell you plainly if worn bearings or a damaged blade make a repair not worthwhile. We explain every part we replace.
About this series
- Manual flywheel slicers
- Hand-operated carriage and flywheel
- Used for cured meats
How is a flywheel slicer different?
It is hand-operated with a flywheel, so there is no electric knife motor to start. Most problems are the blade, the bearings and the carriage.
Why does the flywheel bind?
Dried residue or worn bearings are the usual reason, and we clean, lubricate and replace what is worn. A smooth turn by hand is what we aim for before we leave.
How often should a flywheel slicer be cleaned?
Daily cleaning keeps residue from drying on the carriage and flywheel. Unplug or stop the machine, keep the guards in place and keep your hands clear of the blade.
