Follett Ice Machine Error Code HI AMP: Hard Error Lockout
A Follett ice machine showing only the HI AMP light, with TIME DELAY dark, has locked itself off after two high-amp errors within one hour. Turning the power off and on does not clear it. Press the reset button on the Maestro Plus control board once, and call a technician if the light returns.
High: the machine is locked off and makes no ice until the board is reset.

What does Follett error code HI AMP mean?
The Maestro Plus control watches the electrical current drawn by the auger gearmotor. The manual's limit is 3 amps, and it also treats zero current as an error. The first time the reading goes outside that range the control shows HI AMPS together with TIME DELAY, waits 60 minutes and restarts the machine by itself. If a second high-amp error arrives within one hour of the first, the control stops trying and treats it as a hard error. In that state the HI AMP LED is the only error light on and the TIME DELAY LED is off. The machine stays off until someone presses the RESET button on the control board. Cycling the power does nothing, because the lockout is meant to survive a power interruption.
Affected models and control systems
The manual covers the Symphony Plus 12 Series ice and water dispensers 12CI425A and 12HI425A, which use the Maestro Plus PC board, and states that 25 Series Plus and 50 Series Plus machines follow the same logic.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- HI AMP light on by itself, TIME DELAY light off
- No ice being made and the machine silent
- Power cycled with no change
Possible causes
Listed in Follett's documentation
- Auger gearmotor current draw above the 3 A limit, or no current draw (0 A), occurring twice within 1 hour
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code HI AMP on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Ice or scale packed around the auger so the gearmotor works against a heavy load
- Gearmotor winding or connection that has opened, which would read as no current at all
- Supply voltage dips at the receptacle that make the gearmotor pull extra current at start
Safe checks before calling for service
- Note whether the HI AMP light is on alone or together with TIME DELAY. Alone means the hard lockout described here.
- Press the reset button on the Maestro Plus PC board once, as the manual directs. Do not rely on switching the power off, since that does not clear this state.
- If HI AMP comes back, leave the machine off rather than resetting it repeatedly.
- For the service call, write down the exact lights shown and the time of any earlier soft error.
How a technician diagnoses error code HI AMP
- Read which error lights are lit and confirm the control is in the hard state, not the 60-minute soft delay.
- Measure the auger gearmotor current during a run against the 3 A limit, and check for an open circuit that would show 0 A.
- Inspect the auger and evaporator area for ice build-up or scale that loads the gearmotor, and turn the auger by hand with power locked out.
- Test gearmotor windings and wiring, reset the board, and replace a part only after the readings point to it.
- The auger gearmotor is wired to line voltage behind the service panel, so measuring its current means working near live conductors.
- Telling an ice-loaded auger from a failing gearmotor takes a clamp meter reading and mechanical inspection of the evaporator.
How error code HI AMP differs from similar codes
The first stage is a soft HI AMPS with TIME DELAY lit for 60 minutes and an automatic restart. This page covers the second stage.

Will HI AMP clear if I just unplug the machine?
No. The manual says cycling power does not clear the hard error. Only the reset button on the control board does.
What if I see HI AMPS with TIME DELAY lit?
That is the first, soft error. The manual says it counts down 60 minutes and restarts by itself.
Is it safe to keep pressing reset?
Press it once to see whether it clears. If the light returns, the manual points you to the troubleshooting guide or a Follett service technician.
