What does Kolpak DISP EXTERNAL ALARM 2 mean?
Display AUX2 can be set up as an external alarm input. With AUX2 FUNCTION on EXT ALARM, the Display watches a digital contact and treats a change as an alarm. When that digital input becomes active, the text alarm DISP EXTERNAL ALARM 2 appears in the Alarms menu. The controller only reads the contact, so it has no knowledge of what is on the other side. It could be a monitoring switch, a power relay, or a signal from other equipment, depending on how the walk-in was wired. As long as the input stays active, so does the alarm. Pressing ENTER quiets the display for one hour, and the alarm sounds again if the input is still active. Because Display AUX2 can also be set as a temperature input, a mix-up in the function setting is another thing to rule out.

Safe checks before calling for service
- Press ENTER to silence the alarm. It stays quiet for 1 hour and sounds again if the input is active.
- Ask who installed the Display, or read the job notes, to find what AUX2 is wired to.
- Look at that equipment from outside for a lit warning or tripped breaker.
- Record the alarm text and the equipment, and give it to the technician.
How a technician diagnoses DISP EXTERNAL ALARM 2
- Verify Display AUX2 FUNCTION reads EXT ALARM and not a temperature input.
- Identify the device on the input and read its status.
- Meter the input at the Display terminals.
- Isolate the field wire to see whether the alarm clears.
- Fix the device or wiring, or correct the function if it should not be an alarm input.
- The Display terminals are live and the housing has to be opened to reach them.
- The connected device may protect other equipment, so it should not be bypassed to stop the alarm.
- Function changes are controller programming and should be matched to the installation record.
