What does Kolpak EXTERNAL ALARM 1 mean?
The stand-alone Deluxe Display lets an input be chosen as an external alarm. The input is a simple contact: it is either in its normal state or active. When an input selected for this purpose becomes active, the Display shows the text alarm EXTERNAL ALARM 1, 2, OR 3 in the Alarms & Variables menu. The manual combines the three into one entry, so the wording does not identify which of the three inputs is active. It also does not name the device on the input. That depends on the installation: it could be a switch on other equipment or a monitoring relay. The alarm is therefore a pointer to something outside the Display. The manual's only guidance is to scroll the Alarms & Variables menu to see active alarms, and it lists a DISP CLEAR ALARM variable for clearing alarms set in the Deluxe Display. Clearing it does not change the outside device.

- Give the technician the alarm name, the input number if shown and the device.
How a technician diagnoses EXTERNAL ALARM 1
- Read the active alarms and the input selections.
- Identify the device on the active input and read its state.
- Meter the input to confirm it is active.
- Lift the field wire to see whether the alarm clears.
- Fix the device or wiring, or deselect the input if nothing belongs there.
- Input terminals sit inside the powered Display housing.

Does the alarm say which input is active?
The manual lists one combined entry for inputs 1, 2 or 3. The active input is found in the menu or at the terminals.
Is this the same as EXTERNAL ALARM 1?
No. EXTERNAL ALARM 1, 2 and 3 are separate Main board alarms on the OEM controller. This entry belongs to the stand-alone Display.
Can I clear it with DISP CLEAR ALARM?
That variable clears alarms set in the Display, but the alarm returns if the outside device is still active.
