Anets Fryer Error Code HIGH TMP: Hot Oil or Probe

HIGH TMP on an Anets AGP fryer with the computer control can mean the oil has reached an unsafe temperature, or that the probe reading is incorrect. Turn the fryer off and let it cool well before turning it on again. If the probe is the problem, contact a qualified service technician.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the oil may be unsafely hot or the probe unreliable, so the fryer should be off until it is checked.

What does Anets HIGH TMP mean?

HIGH TMP is the computer control's version of the two-meaning message that the digital controller shows as HI. The control compares the probe's oil temperature with a safety ceiling, and when the reading passes it the display says HIGH TMP. The manual's table on page 31 gives two possibilities for the same message: the oil or shortening has really reached an unsafe temperature, or the probe reading is incorrect. The display cannot separate the two. The manual's action is to turn the fryer off and allow ample time to cool before turning it on, and, if the probe reading is the problem, to contact a qualified service technician. No cool-down time is given in minutes. Since the first possibility is a real overheat of cooking oil, the right first move is to stop heating and keep clear of the vat until it has cooled well down.

Affected models and control systems

Anets AGP series gas fryers (AGP55, AGP55T, AGP60, AGP60W and AGP75) with the computer control, which shows HIGH TMP. The digital controller on these fryers shows the same two-meaning message as HI.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • HIGH TMP shows on the display
  • The oil smells hot or smokes at the surface
  • The fryer stops heating until it is turned off and cooled

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind HIGH TMP on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Oil left heating past its setting while idle or without a load
  • Probe loose or coated, so it reads higher than the real oil temperature
  • Gas valve staying open after the setpoint is reached

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Turn the fryer off and keep people and food away from the vat. Do not filter or move hot oil.
  2. Wait until the oil is clearly well below cooking temperature.
  3. Check the oil is at the marked line and the probe is straight and clean.
  4. Turn the fryer on once. If HIGH TMP returns quickly with cool oil, note that and leave the fryer off.

How a technician diagnoses HIGH TMP

  1. Find out if the oil was truly overheated and compare the display with a separate thermometer once the oil is safe to measure.
  2. Check oil level and condition and the probe seating.
  3. Test the probe resistance at a known temperature against its curve.
  4. Check the gas valve and the control output for a valve that fails to close at the setpoint.
  5. Replace the probe or control part only after the matching test, and confirm the temperature again on heat-up.
! Leave this to a technician
  • If the oil really is overheating, the cause lies in the gas valve and control circuit, which need live testing.
  • Burns from hot oil and the risk of ignition mean the cool-down, testing and any repair belong with a technician.

How HIGH TMP differs from similar codes

HIGH TMP is the computer control wording and HI is the digital controller wording for the same two meanings. PROBE OP OPEN and SYSTEM FAILURE are separate probe messages.
