Anets Fryer Error Code SYSTEM FAILURE: Probe Shorted

SYSTEM FAILURE on two lines, shown by an Anets AGP fryer with the computer control, means the temperature probe is shorted. The manual says to contact a qualified service technician. Leave the fryer off until the probe has been tested.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the control has no valid oil temperature, so the fryer should stay off until the probe is tested.

What does Anets SYSTEM FAILURE mean?

The computer control measures the probe's electrical signal to work out the oil temperature. A probe that is shorted gives a signal far outside the normal range, so the control cannot calculate a sensible temperature. It reports this with SYSTEM on the first line and FAILURE on the second. The manual, in the computer control table on page 31, gives the meaning as temperature probe is shorted and the action as contact a qualified service technician. Despite the broad wording on the screen, this particular message is about the probe, not the whole system. The manual does not list causes and does not say what the burner does while it is showing. A short in the probe circuit means the control has no valid temperature, and heating oil without one is unsafe, so the fryer should be left off.

Affected models and control systems

Anets AGP series gas fryers (AGP55, AGP55T, AGP60, AGP60W and AGP75) with the computer control, where SYSTEM FAILURE is printed on two lines. The digital controller table in the same manual has no entry with this wording.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • SYSTEM and FAILURE show on the two display lines
  • No usable oil temperature is shown
  • The fryer will not heat, or does not respond to the setpoint

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind SYSTEM FAILURE on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Probe wires pinched, rubbed through or touching each other at the vat or in the harness
  • Moisture or oil inside the probe connector bridging its contacts
  • Probe damaged internally by heat

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Turn the fryer off and let the oil cool completely.
  2. Look at the probe and its wire without pulling on it for pinched or damaged insulation and oil in the connector.
  3. Turn the fryer on once with the oil at its normal level to see whether SYSTEM FAILURE returns.
  4. If it returns, leave the fryer off and note whether it came up at once or after heating.

How a technician diagnoses SYSTEM FAILURE

  1. Read the display and confirm SYSTEM FAILURE is the probe message and not a general alarm.
  2. Inspect the probe lead and harness for pinched or burned insulation, power off.
  3. Measure resistance at the probe connector; a shorted probe reads near zero compared with its curve.
  4. Check the connector and board input for moisture, then disconnect the probe to see if the reading changes.
  5. Replace the probe or repair the harness only after the meter result, and verify the display against a thermometer.
! Leave this to a technician
  • A short in a probe circuit beside hot oil and a gas burner has to be traced with meters and the power off.
  • Wrong probe readings can let the oil overheat, so replacement and a check against a thermometer are a technician's job.

How SYSTEM FAILURE differs from similar codes

SYSTEM FAILURE is listed as a shorted probe, while PROBE OP OPEN is listed as an incorrect reading. The digital controller shows the incorrect-reading form as Prob.

SYSTEM FAILUREQuestions about Anets SYSTEM FAILURE
Does SYSTEM FAILURE mean the whole fryer has failed?

No. In the manual it means the temperature probe is shorted.

Can I keep cooking?

We would not. Without a valid temperature the control cannot manage the oil, and the manual says to contact a qualified service technician.

Will it clear if I turn the fryer off?

The manual does not say. If it does, a damaged probe lead that moves is a possibility, but the problem is likely to return.
