Hill Phoenix Display Refrigerator Error Code HA: High Temperature
HA, Maximum temperature alarm, on a Hill Phoenix CNZLA or CNEZLA merchandiser with the Dixell XR06CX controller means the case temperature reached the maximum alarm setting after the alarm delay. Outputs are unchanged and the alarm stops automatically once the temperature is back to normal.
Medium: the case is above its alarm limit, though the unit keeps running and the alarm clears when it recovers.

What does Hillphoenix error code HA mean?
The Dixell XR06CX compares the case temperature with an upper alarm limit, set by the AU parameter. When the temperature rises above that limit it does not alarm at once, because a door opening or a restock can cause a short warm-up. It waits for the delay set by the Ad parameter first. If the temperature is still at or above the limit when the delay ends, the controller shows HA. According to the manual's section 12, outputs are unchanged while HA is showing, so the compressor and fans carry on as they were. The alarm clears by itself as soon as the temperature returns to normal. HA is therefore a report of a warm case, not a stop, and the real question is why the case warmed: product loading, a dirty condenser, airflow problems or a cooling failure.
Affected models and control systems
CNZLA and CNEZLA single-deck merchandisers (R-290) with the Dixell XR06CX controller. The alarm is described in Appendix B of the installation and operations manual, section 12 and 12.1 of the Dixell instructions.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- HA shows on the controller display
- Product in the case feels warmer than usual
- Compressor runs for long periods without bringing the case down
Possible causes
Listed in Hillphoenix's documentation
- Temperature reached the AU maximum alarm setting after the Ad delay
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code HA on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Warm product just loaded or the case overfilled, blocking the air curtain
- Condenser coil dirty, so the compressor cannot reject heat
- Evaporator iced or fan stopped, cutting airflow
- Door or lid left open or seal damaged where the case has one
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check the case temperature with a separate thermometer and move at-risk product if it stays warm.
- Look at whether product blocks the air outlets and return, and move it back.
- Check the condenser area, where reachable, for dust and clear obvious debris with the power off.
- Note how long HA has shown and the thermometer reading, then tell the technician.
How a technician diagnoses error code HA
- Read the display and the AU and Ad settings and confirm HA is the only alarm.
- Confirm real case temperature with a reference thermometer.
- Check airflow, evaporator fan operation and ice on the coil.
- Check the condenser coil and fan for restriction.
- Check refrigerant pressures and compressor running only if the cheaper checks pass, then correct the cause.
- Condenser and compressor work involves line voltage and a flammable R-290 refrigerant circuit.
- Reading refrigerant-side pressures needs certified equipment, and R-290 needs special precautions.
How error code HA differs from similar codes
HA is high temperature and LA is low temperature, both based on the Ad delay. EA and CA are alarms from external inputs.

Related Hillphoenix display case error codes
Does HA stop the compressor?
No. The manual says outputs are unchanged while HA shows.
Will HA clear on its own?
Yes. The manual says it stops automatically as soon as the temperature returns to normal.
Why was there a delay before HA appeared?
The Ad setting makes the controller wait so that short warm-ups do not raise the alarm.
