What does Blendtec error: overload condition detected mean?

A blender motor draws more current when the load is heavy or when the blades cannot turn freely. The Blendtec control watches for that, and if the load is too much, it stops the motor and shows Error: Overload condition detected. The manual lists this message with the other Reset Errors for the Stealth 875/885 and Connoisseur 825, and the action is to press the cancel button or cycle power by unplugging the blender and plugging it back in. If it does not clear, the manual says to contact your Blendtec service agent. It lists no individual causes. Overfilled or very thick loads and a jammed jar are the usual reasons, but those are our likely causes. This message is about load on the motor, whereas Overtemp is about heat. The display reads exactly Error: Overload condition detected.

Affected models and control systems

This message is listed in the Blendtec Commercial Series manual, which covers the Stealth 875/885 (and 895 in its contents), Connoisseur 825, Chef 775, EZ 600 and Chef 600. The reset instruction below is given under Reset Errors for the Stealth 875/885 and Connoisseur 825.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Error: Overload condition detected on the display
  • Blender stopping when the load is thick
  • Blades slow or stuck before the stop

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind error: overload condition detected on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Jar overfilled or the mixture too thick or too frozen
  • Blades jammed by something hard such as ice or a utensil
  • Jar or blade assembly worn so it drags
  • Drive coupling between the jar and the base binding

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Switch the blender off and unplug it before touching the jar.
  2. Remove the jar and check for a jam or a utensil caught at the blade.
  3. Reduce the load or add liquid and refill the jar below the fill line.
  4. Press the cancel button, or plug the blender back in, then try again with the lighter load.
  5. If it still shows, note what you were blending and how full the jar was, for the service call.

How a technician diagnoses error: overload condition detected

  1. Read the error and confirm it is the overload message.
  2. Check the jar, blade assembly and drive coupling for wear or drag.
  3. Spin the drive by hand with power isolated to check for binding.
  4. Measure motor current under a known load.
  5. Replace the worn drive part or motor as the tests show and repeat a loaded run.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Reaching into the jar near the blades is a cut hazard unless the blender is unplugged.
  • Motor current checks mean working with line voltage.
  • A binding drive coupling can need the base opened and parts replaced.
