ACP Amana Oven Error Code C-2: Temperature Sensor Out of Range (AXP20)

C-2 on an older Amana Xpress AXP20 or MXP20 oven means the temperature sensor (RTD) reads out of range, neither open nor shorted. The oven stops heating because it cannot trust the reading. Take the plug out, let it cool, plug it back in, and tell us how the oven is cleaned.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: heating stops because the temperature cannot be trusted, and the oven can be unplugged safely.

What does ACP Amana error code C-2 mean?

C-2 is the in-between reading from the RTD sensor. The control accepts a reading only inside a normal band. A broken wire gives an open reading, a pinched one a shorted reading, but C-2 appears when the signal sits outside the accepted range without being either. A sensor that has aged and drifted can do this, as can a corroded connector that weakens the signal, a damaged wire along the run to the board, or a board input that misjudges the reading. The oven stops heating because it cannot trust the reading, which is the safe response when the reading may be wrong in either direction. The maker's step is limited: take the plug out, let the oven cool and plug it back in. Corroded connectors often come from a damp kitchen or from spray cleaning near the oven, so tell us how the oven is cleaned. Do not run it with an unreliable reading. The sensor wire runs through heat and the board is live, so the panels stay on.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to the older Amana Xpress AXP20 and MXP20 touch pad combination ovens, which use hyphenated codes, as described in the ACP Commercial Service and Training Manual. The AXP22 and MXP22 show this reading as C2.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • C-2 on the display
  • Heating stops
  • The cavity temperature looks wrong
  • The code returns after a cool start

Possible causes

Listed in ACP Amana's documentation

  • RTD aged, with a reading drifted out of range
  • RTD connector corroded, changing the signal
  • Sensor wire damaged along its run to the board
  • Main board input misjudging the RTD reading

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code C-2 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • An RTD that has aged so its resistance sits higher than it should at every temperature
  • Grease-laden steam that has reached the sensor connector and left a film that changes the signal

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Take the plug out, let the oven cool and plug it back in.
  2. Tell us how the oven is cleaned, since spray near the oven can corrode connectors.
  3. Do not run it with an unreliable reading.
  4. The sensor wire runs through heat and the board is live, so leave the covers on.
  5. Note when the code appears.

How a technician diagnoses error code C-2

  1. Read the code and see whether it appears cold or only after warming.
  2. Measure the RTD resistance at room temperature and compare with the manual's table.
  3. Inspect the connector for corrosion and the wire for damage.
  4. Test the board input with a known resistance.
  5. Replace the RTD, connector or board only after the comparison.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Telling a drifted sensor from a corroded connector needs a resistance reading compared with the manual's values.
  • The connector and lead are inside the hot oven body, next to a live board.
  • Replacing parts without that comparison can leave the real cause in place.

How error code C-2 differs from similar codes

C-0 and C-1 are open and shorted readings. C-2 is neither, and points to drift or a weak signal.

C-2Questions about ACP Amana error code C-2
Is C-2 the same as C-0 or C-1?

No. Those are open and shorted readings. C-2 is a reading outside the allowed range that is neither.

Can spray cleaners cause it?

They can corrode connectors, which the maker notes, so keep cleaner away from the oven's back and sides.

Is it safe to use the oven?

We would not. The control cannot trust the temperature, so it stops heating.
