ACP Amana Oven Error Code G-0: Over Maximum Temperature (AXP20)
G-0 on an older Amana Xpress AXP20 or MXP20 oven means the oven exceeded its maximum temperature, and the control stops the cook cycle. Either the oven really overheated or a sensor read wrong. Switch off at the plug, let the cavity cool, clean the filter, clear the vents, and stop using the oven if G-0 returns.
High: the oven stopped to protect itself from over-temperature, and a repeat means a real heat or sensor problem.

What does ACP Amana error code G-0 mean?
G-0 is the control's overtemperature response. It watches the cavity temperature through its sensors, and if the temperature exceeds the oven's maximum, it stops the cook cycle to protect the oven. There are two broad explanations. The oven may have really overheated, for example from a blocked filter or a weak cooling fan, or a sensor may have read wrong, so the control believed an overheat that did not happen. Telling those apart is the work of a technician, who tests the sensors, the wiring and the electronic limiter. The manual's list names the reason the oven overheated, the thermocouple and RTD readings, the air filter and cooling fan, and the electronic limiter. The owner steps are to switch the oven off at the plug and let the cavity cool fully, clean the filter, clear the vents, and look at whether a hot appliance sits beside the oven. If G-0 returns, stop using it. The limiter and board carry high voltage, and a blocked filter or weak fan will cause the same trip again.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to the older Amana Xpress AXP20 and MXP20 touch pad combination ovens, which use hyphenated codes, as described in the ACP Commercial Service and Training Manual. The AXP22 and MXP22 write this reading as G0.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- G-0 on the display
- The cook cycle stops
- The cavity feels very hot
- The code returns after the oven has cooled and run again
Possible causes
Listed in ACP Amana's documentation
- Oven really overheated, for example from a blocked filter or weak cooling fan
- Thermocouple or RTD reading wrong
- Air filter blocked or cooling fan weak
- Electronic limiter tripping
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code G-0 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A cooling fan blade loose on its shaft so it spins without moving air
- A hot appliance beside the oven pushing its exhaust into the oven's air intake
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the oven off at the plug and let the cavity cool fully.
- Clean the filter and clear the vents.
- Look at whether a hot appliance sits beside the oven.
- If G-0 returns, stop using it.
- Tell us how long the oven ran and what it was cooking.
How a technician diagnoses error code G-0
- Read the code and confirm it repeats.
- Check the filter, vents and cooling fan for airflow.
- Compare thermocouple and RTD readings with true cavity temperature.
- Test the electronic limiter and the wiring.
- Replace the fan, sensor or limiter that fails, and correct the airflow.
- Telling a real overheat from a false sensor reading needs instruments, not guesswork.
- The limiter and board carry high voltage.
- A blocked filter or weak fan will cause the same trip again until it is corrected.
How error code G-0 differs from similar codes
G-2 on the same oven is a magnetron thermal cut-out or cooling motor entry. G-0 is the maximum-temperature one.

Did the oven really overheat?
Possibly. A blocked filter or weak fan can cause it, but a sensor reading wrong can look the same.
Can I clean the filter and carry on?
Cleaning is the right first step. If G-0 comes back, stop and call us.
Is G-0 the same as G0?
Yes in meaning. G0 is the newer AXP22/MXP22 spelling.
