Blendtec Blender Overtemp Error: Motor Overheating

Overtemp Error means the blender's motor has heated up and the control has shut it off until it cools. Give it at least 20 minutes, keep the base vents clear and blend smaller loads. If it still will not run after that cooling time, the manual says to call a service agent.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the blender is disabled until it cools, but normal use resumes after a rest unless the cooling path is weak.

What does Blendtec Overtemp Error mean?

A Blendtec motor makes heat every time it turns, and a temperature sensor on the base reports that heat to the control. During a cycle the control compares the reading to a limit. If the motor is running long blends, thick mixes or an overfilled jar, the reading climbs. When it reaches the limit, the control disables the blender and shows Overtemp Error. It stays off until the sensor reports a safe temperature again. Poor airflow around the base makes this happen sooner, because the cooling fan cannot move heat away from the motor. In a busy shop the pattern is often a long rush with back to back batches and no rest between them. The blender is protecting the motor from damage, and cooling time is the correct response. When the error appears early in the day, on a cold base, or after only one short blend, the problem is more likely the fan, the vents or the sensor than the workload.

Affected models and control systems

This page covers the Blendtec Stealth 875 and 885, Connoisseur 825, Chef 775, and EZ 600 and Chef 600 blenders. Other Blendtec models are not covered by this list.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Blender goes dead in the middle of a rush and Overtemp Error shows
  • Base feels hot to the touch around the vents
  • Blender runs again after resting, then stops again after a few batches

Possible causes

Listed in Blendtec's documentation

  • A jar overfilled or loaded with very thick ingredients
  • Blocked airflow around the base and vents
  • A motor cooling fan that is not moving air
  • A temperature sensor or motor in poor condition

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind Overtemp Error on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Grease or dust coating the base vents so the cooling fan pulls little air through
  • A blender placed against a wall or beside a fryer or oven where the surrounding air is already hot
  • A temperature sensor that reads high and trips the limit before the motor is really hot

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Unplug the blender and let it cool for at least 20 minutes.
  2. Check that the vents on the base are clear and the blender has space around it, away from heat sources.
  3. Blend smaller loads and let the machine rest between batches.
  4. If it still will not work after 20 minutes of cooling, stop and call us. Note how many batches ran before it stopped.

How a technician diagnoses Overtemp Error

  1. Read the code and ask how many cycles ran before the shutdown.
  2. Confirm the vents and cooling path are clear and the fan turns freely when the base is powered.
  3. Check the temperature sensor reading cold against its specified resistance.
  4. Run the base under load while watching temperature rise and the time to the limit.
  5. Replace the fan or sensor only after the readings show which one is out.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The display cannot say whether the heat came from the workload or from a weak fan or sensor, so a technician has to measure both.
  • Reaching the cooling fan and temperature sensor means opening a base with line-voltage wiring.
  • A motor that overheats repeatedly can burn out, so early testing protects the repair cost.

Overtemp ErrorQuestions about Blendtec Overtemp Error
How long should I wait after Overtemp Error?

At least 20 minutes, as the owner's manual says. A longer rest is fine if the base still feels hot.

Will Overtemp Error clear by itself?

Yes, once the motor cools below the limit. If it keeps returning at the same point in a shift, something other than workload is likely involved.

Can I move the batch to another blender while this one cools?

Yes. Using a second unit while this one rests keeps service going without forcing the motor.
