Blendtec Blender Overload Error: Motor Overloaded
Overload Error means the blender's motor was asked to do more work than it is allowed to, so the control stopped the blend to protect it. Press any button or cycle power, then check the jar for something caught at the socket or blade. If the error keeps coming back on light loads, the motor or control needs testing.
Medium: the blender stops the cycle but usually runs again after a reset unless the cause is repeating.
What does Blendtec Overload Error mean?
The Stealth and Connoisseur class blenders measure how hard the motor is working while the blade turns. When the load is heavy enough that the motor would be pushed past its limit, for example a thick frozen mix or a clump wedged between the blade and jar, the control cuts the blend and shows Overload Error. It checks throughout the cycle. The stop is deliberate protection, much like a breaker, and in most kitchens it simply means the load was too much for that cycle. The part to watch is the pattern. If it happens only with very hard or thick product, the machine is doing its job. If it happens on ordinary loads, or with an empty or lightly loaded jar, the motor, the drive socket or the control reading the motor current may be the cause, and that is what a technician checks.
Affected models and control systems
This page covers the Blendtec Stealth 875 and 885, Connoisseur 825, Chef 775, and EZ 600 and Chef 600 commercial blenders. Other Blendtec generations may word their messages differently.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Blend stops partway through a cycle and Overload Error shows
- Motor hums or slows just before the stop
- Blender restarts normally after a button press, then stops again on the same recipe
Possible causes
Listed in Blendtec's documentation
- A load too thick or hard for the motor
- A blockage or wear at the jar socket and blade assembly
- Hard loads blended without pulsing
- A motor or control that overloads even on light loads
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind Overload Error on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Ice or frozen fruit packed in one layer at the bottom of the jar so the blade cannot pull it down
- A worn jar drive socket that slips and makes the motor work harder for the same blend
- A jar loaded past its fill line, which adds weight the motor must turn on every cycle
Safe checks before calling for service
- Press any button or cycle power to clear the message.
- Unplug the blender and take the jar off the base. Look at the socket and blade for a blockage without putting a hand near the blade edges.
- Rerun the blend in pulses and avoid loading very hard or thick ingredients all at once.
- Note the recipe, the load size and whether the error came back on a light or empty jar, and tell us when you call.
How a technician diagnoses Overload Error
- Read the message on the display and ask what load was running when it appeared.
- Inspect the jar socket and blade assembly for wear, play and debris, and spin the blade by hand with the jar off the base.
- Run the base with an empty jar and watch for noise, speed and a repeat of the error.
- Measure motor current and drive output against the maker's specification.
- Replace the motor, socket or control only after the test points to it.
- The error alone cannot separate a heavy load from a failing motor, so the answer needs current and drive measurements.
- A hand near the blade is a laceration risk, so any stuck-blade check belongs with someone trained.
- Testing the motor and drive means opening the base, where the control and motor wiring carry line voltage.

Can I keep using the blender after Overload Error?
Yes, once it has been cleared and the load is lighter. If it returns on light loads, stop using it and have it tested.
Does Overload Error mean the motor is damaged?
Not usually. The blender is protecting itself, and a single event with a hard load is normal. Repeats on easy loads are what point to the motor or control.
Is Overload Error the same as Overtemp Error?
No. Overload is about how hard the motor works right now, while Overtemp is about heat that has built up over time and needs a cooling wait.
