Thunderbird Planetary Mixer Repair
We repair Thunderbird gear-driven planetary mixers, from the ARM-02 up to the ARM-80, in Miami, Los Angeles, Houston, New York and San Diego. Tell us the model and what the mixer does, and we plan the parts before the visit.
Common Thunderbird problems we fix
In plain words, the way kitchen and laundry staff describe them when they call.
Mixer will not start
Gear shift is stiff or stuck
Motor trips on heavy dough
Oil leaking at the head
Bowl lift will not hold
Thunderbird’s ARM series are gear-driven planetary floor mixers from 20 to 80 quarts. The ARM-02 is the 20-quart model, and larger machines include the ARM-30, ARM-60 and ARM-80, with suffixes such as 4S and 6M that mark speed, lift and control variants. The bigger machines have six speeds and use three-phase power.
Manuals for these mixers can be hard to find, so when you call we ask for the model name and a short description of what the mixer does. A mixer that will not start leads us to the bowl guard first, then the timer and the contactor. A gear shift that is stiff or stuck between speeds points to wear or poor lubrication in the transmission, and we check the shift fork and the oil.
A motor that trips on heavy dough makes us look at the batch size and the speed in use, then at the motor and the overload. Oil weeping from the planetary head means a seal has worn, and a bowl lift that will not hold needs a look at the lift mechanism. These mixers see flour dust, steam and daily washdowns, so we check the guard switch and the controls for residue as well.
On an older Thunderbird we say plainly when a transmission repair costs more than the mixer is worth. The price is in writing before we start, and the repair is covered by our 30-day warranty.
Thunderbird lines and model numbers we service
Current and older lines. Find the number on the data plate and open its series for the usual repairs.
Do you repair Thunderbird mixers if I cannot find a manual?
Yes. Manuals for these mixers are hard to come by, so we work from the model name and from testing the guard, the controls and the drive. We give you a written price before any work.
Why is the gear shift on my Thunderbird mixer stuck?
Wear in the shift mechanism or low or dirty oil in the transmission is the usual cause. We inspect the shift fork and the oil first, then tell you the price in writing.
Is the oil leak on my Thunderbird planetary head serious?
A leak means a seal has worn, and running the mixer low on oil damages the gears. We replace the seal, check the gears, and tell you the price first.
