ACP Amana Oven Error Code C-0: Temperature Sensor Open (AXP20)

C-0 on an older Amana Xpress AXP20 or MXP20 oven means the temperature sensor (RTD) reads open, so the control cannot hold a cooking temperature and stops the program. A loose connector or a broken wire is behind it. Switch off at the plug, let the cavity cool, and call us with the code.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the oven cannot hold a temperature and stops, but it is safe left unplugged.

What does ACP Amana error code C-0 mean?

The RTD is a temperature sensor whose resistance changes with heat, and it tells the control how hot the cavity is. The control reads it continuously. When the circuit is open, the control sees no connection to the sensor at all, and C-0 appears. Without a temperature to work from the control cannot hold a cooking temperature, so it stops the program rather than guess. A loose connector or a broken wire is behind it. The sensor wire runs through heat, and years of heating and cooling can dry out and crack a lead, which is one of the causes the manual lists, along with a wire that has broken on its way to the cavity, a loose connector on the AXP20 main board, and a board input that sees the circuit as open. The owner step is limited to switching the oven off at the plug, waiting for the cavity to cool, and making sure no tray rests against the rear wall. If C-0 returns, the oven cannot hold a temperature and should remain off. The wire runs through heat and the board is live, so the panels stay on.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to the older Amana Xpress AXP20 and MXP20 touch pad combination ovens, which use hyphenated codes, as described in the ACP Commercial Service and Training Manual. The AXP22 and MXP22 write the same reading as C0 without a hyphen.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • C-0 on the display
  • The oven does not heat
  • The program stops soon after it starts
  • The code returns after every restart

Possible causes

Listed in ACP Amana's documentation

  • RTD wire broken on its way to the cavity
  • RTD connector loose on the AXP20 main board
  • Sensor lead cracked from heat and drying out
  • AXP20 main board input reading the RTD circuit as open

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code C-0 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A sensor lead that rubs against the cavity wall with each cooking vibration until the conductor snaps
  • A connector pin at the AXP20 board that has backed out of its housing

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Switch the oven off at the plug, wait for the cavity to cool and make sure no tray rests against the rear wall.
  2. If C-0 returns, the oven cannot hold a temperature and should stay off.
  3. Leave all panels on; the sensor wire runs through heat and the board is live.
  4. Call us with the code.
  5. Note whether it showed at start-up or after cooking for a while.

How a technician diagnoses error code C-0

  1. Read the code and confirm it repeats cold and hot.
  2. Inspect the RTD lead and connector for breaks or heat damage.
  3. Measure the RTD resistance at room temperature and compare to the manual.
  4. Check the board connector and input for the RTD circuit.
  5. Replace the RTD, wire or board once the test shows which one is open.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The sensor wire runs through the hot cavity area, so inspecting it means opening the oven body.
  • An open circuit can only be proven with a meter on the RTD and its wiring, and the board is live.
  • Replacing the board when the sensor or its wire has failed would not remove the code.

How error code C-0 differs from similar codes

C-1 is the shorted reading and C-2 an out-of-range reading from the same sensor. C-0 is the open one.

C-0Questions about ACP Amana error code C-0
What does the hyphen mean?

On the AXP20 and MXP20, codes carry a hyphen. The AXP22 and MXP22 show the same reading as C0.

Can I keep cooking?

No. Without a temperature reading the oven cannot hold heat, and the control stops the program.

Is it the board or the sensor?

The sensor and its wire are checked first, since the board is the less likely cause.
