ACP Amana High-Speed Oven Error Code C2: Sensor Out of Range

C2 on an Amana Xpress AXP22 or MXP22 touch panel oven means the temperature sensor (RTD) reads out of range, neither open nor shorted. The oven stops heating because it cannot trust the reading. Unplug it, let it cool between tries, and tell us whether the kitchen is steamy or the oven gets splashed during cleaning.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the oven stops heating because it cannot trust the temperature, but it is safe to leave unplugged.

What does ACP Amana error code C2 mean?

The control accepts an RTD reading only inside a defined band. An open sensor falls above that band and a shorted one below it, and those have their own codes. C2 covers the remaining case, where the reading is neither open nor shorted but still falls outside what the control accepts. A sensor that has drifted with age can do that, as can a corroded connector that adds resistance to the signal, a wire damaged part way along its run, or a main board input that reads the signal incorrectly. The oven stops heating, because a temperature the control cannot trust is worse than no heating at all. Corroded connectors are a particular suspect when the code comes and goes, since corrosion changes the resistance a little more with each steamy shift. The maker's owner advice is to plug the oven back in after unplugging it and to allow time to cool between tries. Note the kitchen conditions, and keep the panels shut, because the cavity is hot and the board is live.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to the Amana Xpress AXP22 and MXP22 touch panel combination ovens, as covered in the ACP Commercial Service and Training Manual. The older AXP20/MXP20 show this reading as C-2.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • C2 on the display
  • Heating stops
  • The temperature reading seems off
  • The code comes and goes between programs

Possible causes

Listed in ACP Amana's documentation

  • RTD drifted outside the range the control accepts
  • RTD connector corroded, adding resistance to the signal
  • Sensor wire damaged part way along its run
  • Main board input reading the RTD signal incorrectly

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code C2 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A sensor connector whose pins have picked up a green film from steam and cleaning spray, adding resistance to the signal
  • An RTD that has slowly drifted after thousands of heat cycles so its reading no longer matches the cavity

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Plug the oven back in after unplugging it, and give it time to cool between tries.
  2. Note whether the kitchen is steamy or whether the oven is splashed during cleaning.
  3. Do not run it repeatedly; a reading the control cannot trust stops heating.
  4. The cavity is hot and the board is live, so panels stay shut.
  5. Tell us whether the code appeared cold or only after cooking.

How a technician diagnoses error code C2

  1. Read the code and confirm it repeats.
  2. Measure the RTD resistance cold and compare to the manual's table.
  3. Inspect the connector and lead for corrosion or damage.
  4. Test the board input with a known resistance.
  5. Replace the RTD, connector or board only when the check points to it.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Telling drift from corrosion needs the sensor's resistance compared with the manual's values.
  • The connector and lead sit inside the hot oven body, near a live board.
  • The board carries high voltage, so opening the oven to test it is not safe for an operator.

How error code C2 differs from similar codes

C0 is the open reading and C1 the shorted reading from the same sensor. C2 is the in-between reading outside the accepted range.

C2Questions about ACP Amana error code C2
Is C2 a sensor failure?

Possibly, but it can also be a corroded connector or a wire. A resistance test tells us which.

Why does it come and go?

A corroded connector changes its resistance with heat and moisture, so the reading drifts in and out of range.

Is C2 the same as C-2?

Yes in meaning. C-2 is how the older AXP20/MXP20 spell it.
