ACP Amana High-Speed Oven Error Code D0: Thermocouple Open

D0 on an Amana Xpress AXP22 or MXP22 touch panel oven means the thermocouple reads open, so the control cannot confirm the cavity is not overheating and stops heating. The oven stops partway through programs. Pull the plug, push it back in, and do not leave it running unattended if D0 returns.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the overheating safeguard is not reading, so the oven should not run unattended.

What does ACP Amana error code D0 mean?

Two sensors watch the cavity. The RTD manages the cooking temperature, and the thermocouple is the second sensor that lets the control confirm the cavity is not overheating. With an open thermocouple circuit, the control cannot do that confirmation and displays D0. It stops heating rather than run without its overheating check, and the oven stops partway through programs. A broken wire or loose connector is behind it. The manual lists a thermocouple wire broken open inside the AXP22 cavity, a loose plug at the main board, a lead made brittle by heat until it cracked, and a main board input that fails to read the thermocouple. The owner step is to pull the plug, push it back in and start a program to see whether D0 comes back. Keep trays and foil away from the back of the cavity. The thermocouple is the overheating check, so an oven that shows D0 should not run unattended. Wiring behind the panels is hot and live; call us with the code.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to the Amana Xpress AXP22 and MXP22 touch panel combination ovens, as covered in the ACP Commercial Service and Training Manual. The older AXP20/MXP20 spell this reading D-0.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • D0 on the display
  • The oven stops partway through a program
  • No heating after the stop
  • The code returns on the next start

Possible causes

Listed in ACP Amana's documentation

  • Thermocouple wire broken open inside the AXP22 cavity
  • Thermocouple plug loose at the main board
  • Thermocouple lead made brittle and cracked by heat
  • Main board input failing to read the thermocouple

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code D0 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A lead that heat has baked brittle near the cavity wall and cracked open when a tray was shifted
  • A thermocouple plug at the main board that was not fully seated after earlier service

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Pull the plug, push it back in and start a program to see whether D0 comes back.
  2. Keep trays and foil away from the back of the cavity.
  3. Do not leave an oven that shows D0 running unattended.
  4. Wiring behind the panels is hot and live, so call us with the code.
  5. Tell us how far into a program it stopped.

How a technician diagnoses error code D0

  1. Read the code and run a program to see when it appears.
  2. Inspect the thermocouple lead and plug for breaks.
  3. Test circuit continuity cold.
  4. Check the main board input.
  5. Replace the thermocouple, lead or board that fails its test.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The thermocouple is the overheating safeguard, so an oven without it should not run unattended.
  • The lead is in the hot cavity area, and testing it means opening the oven.
  • Continuity checks need the covers off and the power controlled, which is technician work.

How error code D0 differs from similar codes

D1 is the shorted thermocouple reading and D2 the out-of-range reading. The C codes belong to the cooking RTD.

Can I run short programs anyway?
