ACP Amana Oven Error Code H-2 / H-3: Main Board (AXP20)

H-2 / H-3 on an older Amana Xpress AXP20 or MXP20 oven means the control points to the main board. The oven may refuse to start or quit partway through a program. Unplug it, wait for the cooling fan to stop, plug it in again, and leave it off if either code returns.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the oven may not run, but leaving it unplugged avoids stress on other parts.

What does ACP Amana error code H-2 / H-3 mean?

The main board runs the magnetrons, the convection heater, the fans and the signals from the touch pad. When the control shows H-2 / H-3, it no longer trusts that board, and the oven may refuse to start or quit partway through a program. The manual's list names a main board whose circuits have failed on the AXP20, a harness plug that is loose or burned at the board, unstable outlet power that has stressed the main board, and slow heat or moisture damage on it. The owner step is to unplug the oven and wait until the cooling fan has stopped, then plug it in again. If either code comes back, switch the oven off at the plug and leave it. Running with a doubtful main board can stress the magnetrons and heater. The covers stay on because the board carries high voltage. A technician checks the outlet and the harness before condemning the board, because a loose or burned plug looks the same from the front panel as a failed board.

Affected models and control systems

This applies to the older Amana Xpress AXP20 and MXP20 touch pad combination ovens, which use hyphenated codes, as described in the ACP Commercial Service and Training Manual. On the AXP22 and MXP22, H2 and H3 are separate entries.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • H-2 or H-3 on the display
  • The oven refuses to start
  • A program quits partway through
  • The code returns after the cooling fan stops

Possible causes

Listed in ACP Amana's documentation

  • AXP20 main board circuits failed
  • Harness plug loose or burned at the board
  • Unstable outlet power stressing the main board
  • Main board damaged slowly by heat or moisture

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code H-2 / H-3 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A harness plug whose terminals have darkened from heat and now carry current poorly
  • A kitchen outlet that sags when other equipment starts, stressing the board's supply

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Unplug the oven and wait until the cooling fan has stopped, then plug it in again.
  2. If either code comes back, switch the oven off at the plug and leave it.
  3. Do not run the oven with a doubtful main board.
  4. Leave the covers on; the board carries high voltage.
  5. Tell us whether lights flickered or a breaker tripped beforehand.

How a technician diagnoses error code H-2 / H-3

  1. Read which code shows and when.
  2. Measure outlet voltage at idle and under load.
  3. Inspect the harness plugs for loose or burned terminals.
  4. Look for moisture or heat damage on the board.
  5. Replace the main board only after supply and harness test good.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The main board carries high voltage, so the oven must not be opened by an operator.
  • A burned plug and a failed board give the same code, and only testing tells them apart.
  • A poor supply can ruin a new board too, so the outlet has to be checked.

How error code H-2 / H-3 differs from similar codes

On the AXP22 and MXP22, H2 and H3 each have a separate entry, and A0 also points to the main board. The AXP20 groups H-2 and H-3.

H-2 / H-3Questions about ACP Amana error code H-2 / H-3
Is H-2 different from H-3?

On this older oven the manual lists them together, and both point to the main board.

Will a restart fix it?

It can if the cause was momentary. If a code returns, the oven should stay off.

Do I need a new main board?

Not necessarily. We check the outlet and harness first, since a poor supply can damage a new board.
