American Dryer Phase 6 Message: MAIN dOOR
MAIN dOOR means the main door is open. Close the door and press ENTER/START to continue the cycle. If it will not clear, check the main door switch and harness.
Medium: the dryer stops until the door is closed, and a stuck switch keeps it down.

What does American Dryer (ADC) MAIN dOOR mean?
The controller reads a door switch on the main door and will not run while it is open. If someone tries to start a program with the door open, the display shows MAIN dOOR with an audio indication. If the door is opened during a cycle, the dryer shuts down without audio. After the door is closed, the display reads PRESS START, and pressing ENTER/START continues the cycle. The manual lists two causes: the main door is open, or the door switch or its harness has failed. The first is by far the more common, and closing the door fully clears it. If the door is shut and the message stays, the switch may be out of line or worn, or the harness may be open. Operators see a dryer that stops when the door is opened and will not restart until the door is closed and the start key is pressed.

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind MAIN dOOR on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Door not latching fully because of linen at the seal
- Door switch out of line after the door was bumped
- Harness connector loose at the switch
Safe checks before calling for service
- Close the main door firmly and check that nothing is caught at the seal.
- Press ENTER/START to continue the cycle.
- Open and close the door again and listen for the switch.
- If the message stays with the door shut, note it and call us.
How a technician diagnoses MAIN dOOR
- Read the message and confirm MAIN dOOR.
- Check the door closes fully.
- Check the main door switch alignment.
- Check the harness for an open circuit.
- Replace the switch if it fails.
- Door switch and harness tests need a meter with the dryer isolated.
- A door that is not sensed as closed is a safety matter.
- Bypassing the door switch is not acceptable.
How MAIN dOOR differs from similar codes
MAIN dOOR is the main door; LINT dOOR is the lint drawer and door circuit.
