American Dryer Phase 6 Message: No HEAT

No HEAT means the burner did not light after the ignition retries. The dryer runs with no heat for 3 minutes or until below 100 F. Check the gas supply, the ignition module and the burner ignition parts.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the burner does not light and gas is involved, so the dryer is out of service until it is checked.

What does American Dryer (ADC) error code No HEAT mean?

When the controller calls for heat, the ignition system tries to light the burner. The standard retry count is 2, so there are up to 3 attempts, with a 1-minute purge between them to clear unburned gas. If the burner has not lit after the last attempt, the Phase 6 OPL controller shows No HEAT and runs the dryer with no heat for 3 minutes or until the temperature falls below 100 F. The manual's action is to check the gas supply, the ignition module and the burner ignition parts. The gas supply is first because a closed valve, an empty supply line or low gas pressure all look the same at the dryer. This differs from bURNER FLAME FAIL, where the burner lit and the flame then went out. Operators see the dryer tumble cold, sometimes after a clicking sound, and a damp load at the end.

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Check that the gas supply valve to the dryer is open.

  3. Clean the lint screen and check the exhaust.
  4. Restart once, and if No HEAT returns, call us.

  1. Read the message and confirm No HEAT.
  2. Check gas supply and pressure.
  3. Check the ignition module and its output.
  4. Check the burner ignition parts.
  5. Check the retry sequence and purge.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Gas supply, valve and ignition work is for a technician who works on gas appliances.
  • A gas smell is a safety emergency that calls for the gas utility.
  • Ignition tests involve line voltage.

How error code No HEAT differs from similar codes
