Blodgett Convection Oven Error Code FAN ERR: Fan Failure

FAN ERR on a Blodgett Mark V oven with the IQ2T control means a fan failure was detected while the oven was calling for heat. Press TOGGLE/CLEAR to silence the alarm, press it again to clear the message, and if the condition persists turn the oven off and call a technician.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the oven may start, but heating without a working fan is uneven and should not continue if the code returns.

What does Blodgett FAN ERR mean?

A convection oven only works properly when its fan moves air across the heat source and through the cavity. The IQ2T control watches for that. When it calls for heat and detects that the fan is not running as expected, it posts FAN ERR in the top display and sounds the alarm. The manual gives a two-step clear sequence. The first press of TOGGLE/CLEAR clears the alarm, though the FAN ERR display stays on; a second press clears the message and returns the oven to normal operation. If the condition persists, the manual tells you to turn the oven off and contact a service technician. Running heat without airflow heats the cavity unevenly. The manual does not name the failed part, so the motor, its wiring and its relay all stay open until tested.

Affected models and control systems

This page is for the Blodgett Mark V convection oven with the IQ2T control, as printed in the Mark V Installation, Operation, Maintenance manual. FAN ERR (the fan itself) is a different code from FANC ERR (the fan control contact) on the same control.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • FAN ERR in the top display with an audible alarm
  • No air movement is heard from the oven cavity
  • Food bakes unevenly or cooks slowly
  • The code returns whenever the oven calls for heat

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind FAN ERR on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • The fan motor has stopped or is dragging, so the control sees no fan response during a heat call
  • Grease or debris on the fan wheel keeps it from reaching full speed
  • A fan motor connection or its supply to the motor has dropped out intermittently

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Press TOGGLE/CLEAR once to clear the alarm; the FAN ERR display remains.
  2. Press TOGGLE/CLEAR a second time to clear the message and return to normal operation.
  3. Watch whether the fan starts and whether FAN ERR comes back on the next heat call.
  4. If the condition persists, turn the oven off, and note when the code returns and whether you can hear the fan, then call a technician.

How a technician diagnoses FAN ERR

  1. Read the code and confirm the fan does or does not turn during a call for heat.
  2. Check supply voltage to the fan motor at its terminals with the oven locked out and then powered.
  3. Inspect the fan wheel for build-up, rubbing and shaft play, and check motor winding resistance.
  4. Test the fan relay or contactor and the control output that drives it.
  5. Replace the motor or relay only after the measurements fail, then run the oven through a full heat cycle.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Reaching the fan means opening panels around live wiring
  • The control reports only the failure, not whether the motor, wiring or relay caused it
  • Running heat without airflow strains the heating parts and insulation

How FAN ERR differs from similar codes

FAN ERR means the fan did not run when heat was called, while FANC ERR points to a contact problem in the fan control circuit; the display text tells you which one to give the technician.

FAN ERRQuestions about Blodgett FAN ERR
Can I keep using the oven if FAN ERR clears?

If it clears and stays away, normal operation is fine. If it returns, turn the oven off, because heating without airflow cooks unevenly and stresses parts.

What is the difference between the first and second press of TOGGLE/CLEAR?

The first press clears the alarm and leaves FAN ERR displayed. The second press clears the message and returns the oven to normal operation.

Is FAN ERR the same as FANC ERR?

No. FAN ERR is a fan failure detected during a heat call. FANC ERR refers to a contact failure in the fan control circuit.
