Glastender Bar Refrigerator Error Code Err 1: No Probe Reading

Err 1 means the digital controller is not getting a temperature reading from its sensing probe. The manual says this is most often because the probe wires were unplugged during service. Have the controller wires checked and reconnected per the wiring diagram in the manual; if the probe is defective, call for service.

Medium · inspection needed

High: with no probe signal, the controller cannot regulate the temperature of the stored product.

What does Glastender error code Err 1 mean?

The digital controller in a Glastender bar refrigerator runs the cooling by reading one temperature sensing probe. It needs a live signal from that probe to know whether the box is warm or cold. When the signal is missing entirely, the controller cannot make a cooling decision and shows Err 1 instead of a temperature. The manual's table gives two causes: the probe wires are disconnected from the controller, or the probe is defective. It adds that the first is the usual reason, especially after someone has serviced the unit and left the connector unplugged. The first action the manual gives is to verify the controller wires are connected and to reconnect them according to the wiring diagram in the manual, before calling for service. If the probe is defective, the manual says to call for service. The code is a sensor input problem, not a refrigeration one.

Affected models and control systems

Glastender bar refrigerators with a digital controller, as covered by Operation Manual OM007 for self-contained, side serviced coolers and frosters: models C1SB, C2SB, C1SL, C1SU, F1SB and F1SL.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Err 1 appears in the controller window in place of the temperature
  • The box runs warmer or colder than set because the controller has no reading
  • The compressor runs constantly or not at all, unlike before

Possible causes

Listed in Glastender's documentation

  • Temperature sensing probe wires disconnected from digital controller
  • Defective temperature sensing probe

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Err 1 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Probe connector knocked loose when the unit was cleaned or moved
  • Probe lead pinched or cut where it passes through the cabinet
  • Moisture or corrosion at the probe connector in a damp bar area
  • Controller probe input damaged by a power surge

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Think back over any recent service, cleaning or moving of the unit that could have disturbed the controller wiring.
  2. Look at any part of the probe lead you can see without removing panels, and check it is not pinched or hanging loose.
  3. Check the power cord and outlet, then watch whether Err 1 stays after the unit has run a few minutes.
  4. If Err 1 stays, call for service rather than opening the unit.
  5. Tell the technician when Err 1 first appeared and what work had been done on the unit just before.

How a technician diagnoses error code Err 1

  1. Read the controller display and confirm the code is Err 1, not an alarm.
  2. With power off, inspect the probe plug at the controller against the wiring diagram in the manual.
  3. Check the probe lead along its length for pinches, breaks or moisture.
  4. Measure the probe's resistance with a meter and compare it with a known temperature reading.
  5. Replace the probe only if it tests bad, then verify the controller reads the box temperature.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The controller connections are behind panels near live line-voltage wiring, so reconnecting them is not an operator job.
  • The probe has to be tested with a meter against expected values, which needs a technician's tools and the manual's wiring diagram.

How error code Err 1 differs from similar codes

Err 3 is listed together with Err 1 in the same table and has the same causes. Err 1 is the one the manual describes as most often caused by wires unplugged during service.

Err 1Questions about Glastender error code Err 1
Can I keep the bar refrigerator running with Err 1?

The controller has no temperature reading, so it cannot hold the set temperature reliably. Watch the contents and call for service soon.

Will Err 1 clear when I turn the unit off and on?

The manual does not give a reset step for it. If the wires are disconnected or the probe is defective, it stays until that is fixed.

Is Err 1 the same as Err 3?

They share the same two causes in the manual table, but they are listed as separate codes.
