Huebsch MDC Topload Washer Error Code E:dr: Drain Time Exceeded
E:dr on a Huebsch topload washer with the MDC control means the maximum drain time was exceeded, or water was still sensed at the end of a spin step. Check behind the washer for a kinked drain hose without pulling it out, and see whether other washers on the same drain are slow. If the tub holds water, let us schedule service.
Medium: the cycle halts with a wet load, but the cause is usually a drain restriction and nothing electrical is exposed.
What does Huebsch error code E:dr mean?
The MDC control gives each drain step a limit. If the tub has not emptied inside that maximum drain time, or if water is still sensed when a spin step is due to end, the control stops the cycle and shows "E:dr". The reasoning is simple: spinning a tub that still holds water puts load on the drive and makes a mess, so the control would rather halt and tell the operator. The practical result is wet, heavy laundry and a washer that stops before the final spin. The tub is not emptying as fast as the control expects, and the manual leaves that wide open: a kinked or blocked drain hose, a backed-up standpipe, a slow pump, or a pressure sensing problem. Since the same control also watches the building drain indirectly through how fast the level falls, a drain line shared among several machines can trigger the code even when the washer itself is healthy.
Affected models and control systems
This page applies to Huebsch toploads with the MDC control, as described in the H002C troubleshooting manual that also covers the EDC and NetMaster controls on separate pages. Quantum electronic toploads and QN washer-extractors use different manuals.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Laundry comes out wet and heavy
- The washer stops before the final spin
- "E:dr" appears on the display
- Water slow to leave the tub or standing in the standpipe
Possible causes
Listed in Huebsch's documentation
- Kinked drain hose or backed-up standpipe
- Slow drain pump or weak pump output
- Pressure switch or sensor reading the level wrongly
- Building drain that is slow
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E:dr on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A drain hose that has slipped down and is crushed behind the cabinet after the machine was moved for cleaning
- A coin or small garment lodged at the pump that lets water trickle through but not drain quickly
Safe checks before calling for service
- Look for a kinked drain hose behind the washer, without pulling it out.
- Check whether other washers on the same drain are slow.
- Do not lift or wring a wet load by hand while water remains in the tub.
- If the tub still holds water, note if the code comes at every wash or just the larger loads, and tell us when you call.
How a technician diagnoses error code E:dr
- Read the code and confirm water is present in the tub when the control checks.
- Inspect the drain hose and standpipe for restriction, and see how the building drain handles a full discharge.
- Run the drain pump and check what it moves, including any objects at its inlet.
- Test the pressure switch or sensor and its tube against the actual water level.
- Replace the pump or switch only after the measurement identifies it.
- The drain pump is on a live circuit behind the cabinet, and testing its output means working with the panel off the machine.
- Pressure sensing problems need readings taken against the control rather than a visual look.
- A slow shared drain may need plumbing work outside the washer.
How error code E:dr differs from similar codes
The MDC control uses a maximum drain time as well as a spin-step water check. Quantum toploads show E dr only from water at the spin steps, and the QN models use a programmed timer.

Related Huebsch washer error codes
Can I run another cycle after E:dr?
Only if the tub has emptied. If it still holds water, the same code will most likely return.
Why does the colon matter?
E:dr is how the MDC control writes the message. Other Huebsch controls write E dr without it, with slightly different checks.
Should I try to wring out the load?
No. Wait until the water is gone from the tub before touching the laundry.
