Huebsch Topload Washer Error Code E dr: Drain Not Emptying

E dr on a Huebsch Quantum topload washer means the control still sees water in the tub at the end of the wash spin or at the final spin, when the tub should be empty. Look behind the washer for a kinked or crushed drain hose without pulling the machine out. If the tub keeps holding water, schedule service with us.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the washer stops short of spinning and holds water, but it is not an electrical hazard and the drain path is often the cause.

What does Huebsch error code E dr mean?

At the end of the wash spin and again at the final spin step, the Quantum control expects the tub to be empty so it can safely accelerate the basket. It reads the water level through its pressure sensing, and if water is still present at that point it does not move on. Instead it stops or refuses to spin up and displays "E dr", a drain error. This keeps the machine from spinning a tub full of water. The load comes out heavy and dripping. A kinked or clogged drain hose, a standpipe that is backing up, a pump that is not moving water, or a pressure sensor that is misreading can each produce the same message.

Affected models and control systems

This page applies to Huebsch Quantum topload washers in the TLW13C family with the electronic control. Quantum frontloads, QN washer-extractors and MDC toploads use different manuals and their own wording for drain problems.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Wet laundry that comes out heavy with water
  • The washer stops or will not accelerate into the spin
  • "E dr" shown on the display with water standing in the tub

Possible causes

Listed in Huebsch's documentation

  • Kinked or crushed drain hose
  • Standpipe backing up
  • Drain pump not moving water
  • Water-level pressure sensor or its tube reading wrongly
  • Slow building drain

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E dr on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A drain hose pushed too far down into the standpipe, which can siphon or restrict flow when several washers drain at once
  • Lint or a small garment caught at the pump inlet and slowing the discharge

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Look behind the washer for a kinked or crushed drain hose, without pulling the machine out.
  2. See whether other washers on the same drain are backing up too.
  3. Do not wring out or lift a wet load by hand while the tub still holds water.
  4. If the tub keeps holding water, note whether the code appears every cycle or only on large loads, and tell us when you call.

How a technician diagnoses error code E dr

  1. Read the code and confirm the tub still contains water at the point the control checks.
  2. Trace the drain hose and standpipe for restrictions, and test whether the building drain accepts a full discharge.
  3. Run the drain pump and confirm it moves water, then inspect its inlet for lint or objects.
  4. Check the water-level pressure sensor and its air tube for leaks, kinks or moisture.
  5. Replace the pump or sensor only after the test shows which part is failing.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The drain pump is mains powered and has to be tested with the cabinet open and the tub possibly full.
  • Judging a pressure sensor takes readings against the control and a clear air tube, not a visual check.
  • A slow shared drain can need plumbing work that goes beyond the washer.

How error code E dr differs from similar codes

Quantum topload E dr is triggered by water still present at the spin steps. QN washer-extractors use a timed drain, and MDC toploads report a maximum drain time, so the same letters mean slightly different checks.

E drQuestions about Huebsch error code E dr
Is it safe to open the lid after E dr?

Only after the tub has stopped and the water has drained or been dealt with. Do not lift a wet load by hand while water remains.

Why do the clothes come out soaking wet?

The control would not start the final spin because water was still in the tub, so most of it never got extracted.

Does E dr mean the pump is dead?

Not necessarily. A kink, a backed-up standpipe or a sensor reading can produce the same message.
