Huebsch MDC Topload Washer Error Code E:FL: Fill Time Exceeded
E:FL on a Huebsch topload washer with the MDC control means the maximum fill time was exceeded because the tub did not reach its programmed level in the allowed time. Confirm the hot and cold supply valves are fully open and the hoses are not kinked. If the washer still will not fill, use the online form.
Medium: the washer will not complete a cycle, but supply checks are simple and the hazard is low.
What does Huebsch error code E:FL mean?
The MDC control limits how long a fill step may take. The tub has to reach its programmed level inside that allowance, and when it does not, the control stops the cycle and shows "E:FL". The washer is left with too little water and does not go on to wash. The colon is part of how the MDC writes the message. The manual lists the usual places to look: a supply valve that is closed, clogged inlet screens, low water pressure, a fill valve that does not open, or a level sensing problem. It also names the drain valve sealing, since water that escapes while the tub fills prevents the level from rising. Standing in front of the machine the operator cannot tell these apart, because all of them end the same way: the timer expires with the water level short.
Affected models and control systems
This page applies to Huebsch toploads with the MDC control, covered in the H002C troubleshooting manual alongside the EDC and NetMaster controls. Quantum electronic toploads use E FL without the colon.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- Washer shows too little water and does not start washing
- "E:FL" on the display
- Cycle halted after a long fill step
Possible causes
Listed in Huebsch's documentation
- Supply valves closed or hose screens clogged
- Low water pressure at the machine
- Fill valve or its wiring not working
- Pressure switch not sensing the level, or the drain valve not sealing
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E:FL on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A hot or cold hose connection loosened after the washer was moved, partly choking the flow
- Water hammer arrestor or shut-off valve left half closed after plumbing work in the laundry room
Safe checks before calling for service
- Confirm the hot and cold supply valves are fully open.
- Check that hoses are not kinked.
- Shut the supply valves if water is running onto the floor.
- If the washer still will not fill, use the online form and say which valve feels weak.
How a technician diagnoses error code E:FL
- Read the code and verify what level the tub reached.
- Check both supply valves, hose screens and measured pressure.
- Test the fill valve coils and wiring.
- Check the pressure switch operation and tube.
- Look for water leaving through the drain valve while filling, then replace only the part that fails.
- The fill valve coils are on a live circuit and must be tested with the cabinet open.
- A pressure switch test needs the right tools and an empty-to-full cycle, not guesswork.
- Water leaking near powered parts calls for the machine to be shut down and examined by us.
How error code E:FL differs from similar codes
E:FL on the MDC reports a maximum fill time. Quantum controls show E FL after 30 minutes or the programmed time, and the CHM495R after 10 minutes.

Why is there a colon in E:FL?
That is how the MDC control writes it. The meaning is the same fill problem as on other Huebsch controls.
Can a low-pressure day trigger it?
Yes. A weak supply can use up the allowed time before the level is reached.
Do I need to restart anything?
Fix the supply first. Restarting without finding the cause usually brings the code back.
