Huebsch Washer Error Code E Ht: Heater Did Not Reach Temperature

E Ht on a Huebsch washer with a heating element means the programmed temperature was not reached in about two hours, so the control left the heater off and let the cycle continue. On QN models, open the door or press any key to clear it. Check that the hot water supply valve is open and do not touch the heater wiring.

Medium · inspection needed

Medium: the wash completes without heat, so results suffer but the machine keeps running.

Applies to
Quantum frontload (FLW1535C family) electronic control; CHM1792C family washer-extractor (QN models, 20-100 lb) front-end control; CHM495R family washer-extractor front-end control (20-100 lb)

What does Huebsch error code E Ht mean?

On machines with a heating element, the control raises the water temperature during a wash step. If the programmed temperature is still not reached after about two hours, it stops trying, leaves the heater off and lets the cycle continue, and the display shows "E Ht", a heater error. Customers notice washes that are far cooler than expected. This is different from a machine stopping: the load still gets washed, but without the heat. The manual says the QN models clear the message by opening the door. The list of things to check covers the heating element and its contactor, the accuracy of the temperature sensor, the fill level and the cold water supply, and the control's heater output. A weak or failed element, a contactor that is not closing, or a sensor reading wrongly can each leave the water short of its target.

Affected models and control systems

This page covers Huebsch Quantum frontload washers in the FLW1535C family, QN washer-extractors with the CHM1792C front-end control, and CHM495R-family washer-extractors, all models with a heating element.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.

What you may notice

  • Wash water noticeably cooler than the program calls for
  • "E Ht" on the display after a long heating step
  • Cycle continues but results are poor, with soils or detergent not working well

Possible causes

Listed in Huebsch's documentation

  • Heating element weak or failed, or its contactor not closing
  • Temperature sensor reading inaccurately
  • Fill level too high or cold supply carrying too much volume
  • Heater output on the control not switching

Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code E Ht on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Scale on the element from hard water that insulates it and slows the heating
  • A cold-water inlet leaking through a fill valve while the heater is trying to warm the tub

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Open the door or press any key to clear the message on QN models.
  2. Check that the hot water supply valve is open.
  3. Do not touch the heater wiring or any panel.
  4. Phone us or send the online form, and note which program and temperature setting you used.

How a technician diagnoses error code E Ht

  1. Read the code and the programmed temperature.
  2. Confirm the fill level is correct and the cold supply is not leaking in.
  3. Measure the element current or resistance and check the contactor closes.
  4. Compare the temperature sensor with a thermometer.
  5. Replace the element, contactor or sensor only after testing shows which one is out.
! Leave this to a technician
  • Heating elements and contactors operate at high voltage and are tested live behind the panel.
  • Judging the temperature sensor needs a calibrated thermometer and the machine in its heating step.
  • Scale or mineral build-up on an element has to be handled with the power locked off.

How error code E Ht differs from similar codes

E Ht reports a heater that never reached temperature, which is not the same as E Hd, where the water is too hot to drain.
