Huebsch Quantum Washer Error Code EI01: Infrared Transmission Failure
EI01 means a data transmission over the washer's infrared link failed. It affects programming and data transfer, not washing, so re-aim the handheld device at the control window and try again with the washer idle.
Low: it concerns only the infrared link, and the washer keeps washing.
What does Huebsch error code EI01 mean?
Quantum frontload and topload washers have an infrared window on the control. A handheld device held against it can load settings or collect data, and the control checks each exchange as it happens. EI01 is the control's report that the transmission did not go through. Nothing about the wash circuits is involved, and a load can be washed as normal. The message appears when someone is programming or pulling data, and the transfer simply stops. The infrared path between the two devices is the usual place to look. That means how the device is aimed, how far away it is, and whether the window is clean and free of film or tape. After that come the handheld's own battery and settings. Only once those are ruled out does the control's infrared receiver become a suspect.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to Quantum frontload washers in the FLW1535C family and Quantum topload washers in the TLW13C family, including Huebsch units.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- EI01 appears during a programming or data-transfer attempt
- The handheld device reports that the transfer did not finish
- Washing itself continues normally
Possible causes
Listed in Huebsch's documentation
- Aim and distance between the handheld and the control's infrared window
- Window dirty, scratched or blocked
- Handheld device battery or settings
- Control's infrared receiver
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EI01 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Detergent or fabric softener film on the window that scatters the infrared signal
- A handheld held at a steep angle in a bright laundry room, where ambient light interferes
Safe checks before calling for service
- Hold the handheld device square to the control's infrared window and try the transfer again.
- Wipe the window clean with a soft dry cloth and keep the device steady until the transfer ends.
- Make sure the washer is not in the middle of a cycle before you retry.
- If EI01 keeps coming back, note which device you used and contact us.
How a technician diagnoses error code EI01
- Read the code and confirm the failure happens only during infrared transfers.
- Inspect the infrared window for dirt, scratches or film, and clean or replace it.
- Try a second handheld unit with a good battery to separate the device from the washer.
- Check the control's infrared setting and that the unit is not disabled.
- Replace the control's receiver or board only if known-good devices still fail.
- Reaching the infrared receiver means removing the front panel on a control that carries live 208 to 240 V nearby.
- Telling a failing handheld from a failing receiver needs a second known-good tool and the maker's service procedure.
- Repeated failed transfers can leave settings half written, which a technician can check against the machine's own data.
How error code EI01 differs from similar codes
EI01 is a general transmission failure. EI02 is a time-out, EI09 a CRC-16 error and EI0A a framing error, each pointing to a different kind of link problem.

Related Huebsch washer error codes
Does EI01 stop the washer from washing?
No. It relates to the infrared link used for programming and data collection.
Will it clear on its own?
It clears when you retry successfully. If it repeats with a good aim, the link needs checking.
Is EI01 the same as EI02?
No. EI01 is a failed transmission, while EI02 means the exchange timed out.
