Huebsch Quantum Washer Error Code EI02: Infrared Time-Out
EI02 means the infrared exchange with an external device timed out because the control did not get a reply in the expected time. The washer keeps its cycles, so re-aim the device and try the transfer again.
Low: an infrared programming message only; the washer keeps washing.
What does Huebsch error code EI02 mean?
During a programming or data exchange, the Quantum control sends a message through its infrared window and waits for the handheld device to answer. The wait has a limit. If the reply does not arrive in that time, the control drops the exchange and displays EI02. It is a time-out, which differs from a garbled message: here nothing usable came back at all. Owners see it only during programming or collection, never in the middle of a wash, and the saved cycles are untouched. The usual explanation is that the handheld was moved or pulled away partway through, or was not aimed at the window to begin with. A film on the window or a weak battery in the handheld can mute the reply. If good aim and a good device still time out, the control's receiver, or the wiring behind the front panel, becomes the thing to test.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to Quantum frontload washers in the FLW1535C family and Quantum topload washers in the TLW13C family, including Huebsch units.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- EI02 shows partway through a programming or data pull
- The handheld reports no reply from the washer
- Cycles and settings already in the washer are unchanged
Possible causes
Listed in Huebsch's documentation
- Handheld not kept aimed at the control during the exchange
- Infrared window dirty, filmed or damaged
- External device or its power
- Control receiver or wiring behind the front panel
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EI02 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A handheld with a low battery that sends a weak reply signal
- Tape or a sticker partly covering the infrared window
Safe checks before calling for service
- Re-aim the external device at the control and try again.
- Keep the device still until the transfer finishes instead of lifting it early.
- Check that no one has covered the control window with tape or a sticker.
- If the time-out repeats, note the device used and when it happened, then book a visit with us.
How a technician diagnoses error code EI02
- Read the code and confirm it occurs only in infrared sessions.
- Inspect the window for obstruction and clean it.
- Repeat the exchange with a second handheld that has a fresh battery.
- Check the wiring and connector between the infrared receiver and the control board with the power locked off.
- Replace the receiver or control only after a known-good device still times out.
- The receiver's wiring runs behind the front panel near live 208 to 240 V circuits, so inspecting it is not an operator task.
- Separating a weak handheld from a weak receiver needs a known-good second device and the correct service procedure.
- A transfer that times out in the middle can leave programming incomplete, which has to be checked against the machine's data.
How error code EI02 differs from similar codes
EI02 is a time-out waiting for a reply. EI0C is a different limit: the exchange ran longer than allowed.

Why did the exchange time out?
The control waited for the handheld's reply and none came in time. Moving the device is the most common reason.
Does EI02 affect my wash cycles?
No. Cycles stay as they were.
What if it keeps timing out?
Try another handheld, and if that also fails, the receiver needs testing.
