Huebsch Quantum Washer Error Code EI04: Infrared Expecting Upload
EI04 means the control is waiting for an upload request over the infrared link and has not received one. Finish or cancel the transfer on the handheld first, then start the upload again from the beginning.
Low: a programming-state message; the washer is otherwise unaffected.
What does Huebsch error code EI04 mean?
Some programming and data operations on a Quantum washer run in two parts. The handheld device first asks to send its data, then the data follows. The control, once it has been put into that mode, waits for the request. EI04 shows that it is still waiting and the upload request has not come in. It describes a state of waiting more than a failure, and the wash circuits take no part in it. Owners tend to see it after a transfer was started and not completed, or when the handheld was set to the wrong step in its own menu, so the two devices are out of step. The washer usually returns to normal once the exchange is completed properly or abandoned. If the code appears on every attempt with the handheld in the right step and aimed correctly, then the control's handling of the exchange should be examined.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to Quantum frontload washers in the FLW1535C family and Quantum topload washers in the TLW13C family, including Huebsch units.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- EI04 stays on the display after a transfer was started
- The handheld shows it is not at the upload step
- Normal washing resumes once the exchange is cancelled or finished
Possible causes
Listed in Huebsch's documentation
- Transfer not started from the handheld in the right order
- Settings or stored files on the device
- Infrared window or aim
- Control's handling of the exchange
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EI04 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A previous transfer that was interrupted, leaving the control in waiting mode
- A handheld menu left on download when the washer expects an upload
Safe checks before calling for service
- Finish or cancel the transfer on the handheld device first.
- Aim the device at the control window and begin the upload again from the start.
- Do not use the device while a wash is running.
- If EI04 refuses to leave, note the steps you took on the device and ask us for a service visit.
How a technician diagnoses error code EI04
- Read the code and ask what step the handheld was on.
- Reset the exchange by cancelling on the handheld and, if needed, power-cycling the washer.
- Repeat the upload in the correct order with a known-good handheld.
- Check the infrared window and aim for signal loss.
- If the control still waits on every attempt, test the receiver and replace the board only after that.
- Clearing a control stuck in a waiting mode may involve its service programming, where wrong entries change machine data.
- The receiver and board sit behind panels near live 208 to 240 V circuits.
- Telling a handheld problem from a control problem needs a second known-good device.
How error code EI04 differs from similar codes
EI04 means the control is expecting an upload request. EI01 and EI02 report failed or timed-out exchanges, so EI04 is the one that is about waiting for a first step.

Related Huebsch washer error codes
Is EI04 an error with the washer?
It is mostly a waiting state tied to programming. The wash circuits are not involved.
Will it clear by itself?
It usually clears when the transfer is finished or cancelled.
What if it comes back every time?
Then the order of steps on the handheld, or the control's side of the exchange, needs checking.
