Huebsch Quantum Washer Error Code EI09: Infrared CRC-16 Error
EI09 is a CRC-16 error on the infrared link, which means a data packet did not match its check value and was thrown away. Re-aim the handheld, shade the window from strong light, and hold the device still until the transfer ends.
Low: a data-check failure on the infrared link; the washer keeps washing.
What does Huebsch error code EI09 mean?
Every packet sent between a handheld device and a Quantum washer carries a short check value calculated from its contents, called a CRC-16. The receiving side repeats the calculation and compares. If the two do not match, some part of the data was damaged on the way, and the packet is discarded. The control then shows EI09. The washing circuits are untouched, which is why the machine continues to wash normally between transfers. Owners meet this code during programming or data collection. Typical reasons are a handheld that moved during the exchange, bright light falling on the window, or dirt and scratches that distort the beam. A weak battery in the device can also weaken the signal until bits are lost. If clean, steady transfers with a healthy device still fail, the control's receiver circuit becomes the part to test.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to Quantum frontload washers in the FLW1535C family and Quantum topload washers in the TLW13C family, including Huebsch units.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- EI09 shows in the middle or at the end of a transfer
- The handheld reports a transfer error
- The washer goes on washing normally afterward
Possible causes
Listed in Huebsch's documentation
- Aim and steadiness of the handheld during the exchange
- Infrared window dirty, scratched or in glare
- Handheld battery or condition
- Control receiver circuit
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code EI09 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Sunlight or a bright work light shining straight on the control window
- A handheld resting on a vibrating machine so the beam wanders during the transfer
Safe checks before calling for service
- Re-aim the external device and try again.
- Shade the control window from strong direct light while you transfer.
- Hold the device still until the transfer is complete.
- If you keep seeing EI09, call us and mention which device you used.
How a technician diagnoses error code EI09
- Read the code and confirm it only appears during infrared transfers.
- Inspect and clean the window, and check it for scratches.
- Repeat the transfer in shade with a second handheld on a fresh battery.
- Compare results on another Quantum washer to isolate the device.
- If clean transfers still fail, test the receiver circuit and replace the board only after that.
- The infrared receiver sits on a control board behind the front panel, close to live 208 to 240 V wiring.
- Separating a bad handheld from a bad receiver needs a known-good device and a second machine for comparison.
- Transfers that fail on check values can leave a partial write, which a technician verifies against the washer's stored data.
How error code EI09 differs from similar codes
EI09 is a damaged packet caught by a check value. EI0A is a framing error, where the bits were not lined up, and EI0E is an encryption error.

Related Huebsch washer error codes
What is a CRC-16 error?
It is a failed data check. The packet's contents did not match the check value sent with it.
Can bright light cause EI09?
Yes. Strong light on the window can swamp the infrared beam.
Does it harm the washer?
No. The bad packet is discarded and the machine keeps its settings.
