Huebsch QN Washer-Extractor Error Code Eio 44: Cold Fill Valve Shorted
Eio 44 means the board found the cold fill valve shorted, so its coil or wiring draws more current than it should and the control shuts the output. Turn the washer off at the disconnect, close the cold supply if water is dripping, and leave the valve wiring alone.
High: the shorted output is cut off and most cycles cannot run.
What does Huebsch error code Eio 44 mean?
On a QN-series washer-extractor, each fill valve has its own output on the input and output board, and the board watches the current that output sends. A healthy coil draws a steady, modest current. When the coil fails or a wire is damaged, the current rises, the board cuts the output to protect itself, and the display shows Eio 44 for the cold fill valve. Operators see a washer that will not take cold water or will not start. The cold valve is used in most cycles, so this one stops almost everything, where a hot-valve code can leave some cycles possible. A failed coil, a damaged wire or a wet connector can cause it, and the board's own valve output is the remaining candidate. Continued restarts can overheat the output stage on the board, which is why we ask you to power the machine off and let a technician test the valve and the board in order.
Affected models and control systems
This applies to Huebsch QN-series washer-extractors in the CHM1792C family, 20 to 100 lb, with the front-end control in that programming manual.
Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- The washer will not fill with cold water and shows Eio 44
- Most cycles will not start because they call for cold water
- Water may drip near the valve if a connector or fitting is weeping
Possible causes
Listed in Huebsch's documentation
- Cold fill valve coil shorted
- Wiring and connectors to the valve damaged
- Board's valve output failing
- Moisture near the valve
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code Eio 44 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A cold-side valve coil that has been sweating condensation into its housing for months
- A harness rubbed through against the valve bracket by machine vibration
Safe checks before calling for service
- Power the washer off at its disconnect.
- Close the cold supply valve if water is dripping from the machine.
- Leave the valve and its wires alone, since they carry live power.
- Schedule us to test the valve and the board, and tell us whether hot water still worked.
How a technician diagnoses error code Eio 44
- Read the code and confirm Eio 44 returns when cold fill is requested.
- With the power locked off, measure the coil resistance and check for a short to ground.
- Inspect the harness and connector for rub-through or moisture.
- Test the board's cold valve output only after the coil and wiring are proven good.
- Replace the coil or the board based on the readings.
- The valve connector carries live voltage next to water, which is a shock hazard.
- A shorted output can damage the board, so the order of tests matters.
- Telling a failed coil from a failed output takes a meter and the wiring diagram.
How error code Eio 44 differs from similar codes
Eio 44 is the cold fill valve. Eio 43 is the same short on the hot fill valve.

Related Huebsch washer error codes
Why does a cold valve problem stop so many cycles?
Most cycles call for cold water at some point, so the control cannot run them.
Is the machine leaking?
Not necessarily. The code reports an electrical short, though moisture can cause it.
Can I try again?
One restart is fine to see if it repeats. More will not fix a shorted coil.
