What does Kolpak DOOR TEMP SENSOR mean?

On the Deluxe Display, AUX1 can be set to read a door temperature sensor, which watches the temperature at the walk-in door. In that setting the controller expects a normal sensor reading. A shorted input has no resistance and an open input has none connected, and neither can come from a healthy sensor. When the controller sees one of those states on Display AUX1 with the function set to DOOR TEMP, it posts the text alarm DOOR TEMP SENSOR in the Alarms menu. The alarm reports on the sensor circuit only. Door temperature alarms such as DOOR TEMP HIGH and DOOR TEMP LOW depend on this reading, so they cannot work properly while the sensor is bad. The sound returns after the one-hour silence if the circuit is not repaired.

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind DOOR TEMP SENSOR on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • Door temperature sensor cable pinched at the door frame by repeated opening
  • Sensor connector disconnected during cleaning or door service
  • Moisture at the door entry corroding the sensor or its terminal
  • Display AUX1 set to DOOR TEMP although no sensor is fitted

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Press ENTER to silence the alarm. It stays quiet for 1 hour and returns if the sensor circuit is not repaired.
  2. Look at the area around the door frame for a loose or hanging sensor wire. Do not pull or cut it.
  3. Ask whether the door or frame was serviced recently.
  4. Give the technician the alarm text DOOR TEMP SENSOR and the time it started.

How a technician diagnoses DOOR TEMP SENSOR

  1. Verify Display AUX1 Function is DOOR TEMP.
  2. Inspect the sensor and the cable where it crosses the door frame.
  3. Disconnect and meter the sensor resistance against its chart, then test the cable for continuity.
  4. Replace the sensor or repair the cable, then confirm a sensible reading on the Display.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The sensor connection is inside the Display, which should not be opened by an operator.
  • A meter and a resistance chart are needed to separate a bad sensor from a bad wire.
  • A damaged door-frame cable may need routing that protects it from repeated door movement.
