Kolpak Walk-In Cooler Error Code ROOMTEMP3 SENSOR ALARM: Temp 3 Shorted or Open
ROOMTEMP3 SENSOR ALARM means the Temp 3 input is shorted or open. The stand-alone Deluxe Display has no usable reading from that sensor. Scroll the Alarms & Variables menu to see active alarms, then have the sensor and wire checked.
Low: one sensor reading is lost, and the manual does not say cooling stops.

What does Kolpak ROOMTEMP3 SENSOR ALARM mean?
When the Deluxe Display runs stand-alone, it reads its own temperature inputs: Temp 1, Temp 2 and Temp 3. Temp 3 is the third. If that input is used for a room temperature, the Display checks the sensor circuit every time it reads. A short circuit gives almost no resistance, and an open circuit gives none, and no working sensor behaves that way. The Display then raises the text alarm ROOMTEMP3 SENSOR ALARM. The manual states only that the Temp 3 input is shorted or open. It gives no list of causes. Its only guidance is to scroll the Alarms & Variables menu to see the active alarms, and it mentions a DISP CLEAR ALARM variable that clears alarms set in the Deluxe Display. The alarm describes the input circuit. It does not say the room is warm or cold.

Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind ROOMTEMP3 SENSOR ALARM on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- Temp 3 sensor unplugged or its lead broken
- Lead crushed under a shelf bracket or pinched in a conduit clamp
- Condensation or corrosion in the sensor connector
- Temp 3 set up for room temperature with no sensor connected
Safe checks before calling for service
- Scroll the Alarms & Variables menu to list the active alarms and write them down.
- Measure the room with a separate thermometer to see if cooling continues.
- Look at the visible part of the sensor lead for a break or crush, without pulling on it.
- Tell the technician which alarms are listed and what your thermometer showed.
How a technician diagnoses ROOMTEMP3 SENSOR ALARM
- Read the active alarms and the Temp 3 setup.
- Trace the sensor lead and inspect connectors.
- Meter the sensor against its chart and check the lead for continuity and shorts.
- Replace the sensor or lead.
- Clear the alarm after the repair and verify it stays clear.
- Sensor leads end inside the Display housing, which carries power while running.
- Separating an open from a short means measuring resistance against a chart.
- Clearing the alarm before fixing the circuit hides the problem.

Is the room temperature wrong?
Not necessarily. The alarm is about the Temp 3 sensor circuit, not the room.
Is this the same as ROOMTEMP2 SENSOR ALARM?
It is the same kind of alarm for a different input. This one is Temp 3, and the other is Temp 2.
Can I use DISP CLEAR ALARM to fix it?
The manual says that variable clears alarms set in the Display. It will not repair a bad sensor, so the alarm would return.
